Interestingly for some people the unpleasant sensation extends to other things like crabs, large bugs etc.
Hey, lifelong extreme phobia of crustaceans - mostly crabs - here. I can't look at them, I don't visit beaches, and I'm not a violent person until someone thinks it's funny to wave one in my face. I also can't stand huge centipedes, and those huge, deep sea woodlice things (but I think they're crustaceans too).
Here's where it gets strange. Spiders are adorable, especially the one in the video.
I should probably stay in the UK where they're tiny and harmless, because I just go "dawwww" and want to pet them.

Hey, I'm not a big fan of that sort of thing either. But it's more broadly 'eww' coupled with some fascination though. Spiders hold some very special place deep down. It really is like; brain sees something with a certain leg shape sticking out of somewhere - Alarm Bells!- All hands to battle stations! - Sighting, two points off starboard - Establish Complete Appendage configuration! -- ...... 6!
Phew! OK drop a few alert codes.
Some are surprised it's not a problem with yucky things in general, or dangerous things. But it's not legs, or number of legs, or poisonous. Scorpions are fine, for instance.
Spiders... (and then over a certain size/proximity to my face)
You know what I mean, I'm just saying.
I knew someone who had no problem with spiders and delighted in teasing the rest of us, grabbing big ones and wandering around the house. But you can take that a bit too far. She was foreign you see, and when someone made a mild fuss about there being a Redback out near the garden shed she thought it would be fun to razz the silly arachnophobes once more by going out and grabbing the rather dangerous little beast. It's really hard to explain to someone trying to freak you out with their party trick that this time we're freaked out for slightly different reasons... (nothing happened, but people were wondering if they'd have to tackle her to the ground since the general mood of wildly gesticulating people just made her more determined to grab it).
