I find that the some of the ambient music from The Dark Mod will fit with my mission very well. I'm just concerned though if I have to get permission from anyone to use it freely in my FM? :)

Yes, you should get permission first, then credit whom ever created it. :)

also you'd think I wouldn't need permission since The Dark Mod is free and that people already use the music for their Dark Mod FM's. Why is just giving credit for it not enough?

The music is packaged with The Dark Mod for use in TDM FM's. It's simply good manners to 'ask' as well as give credit, especially when the folks involved are a simple mouse click or two away.
As for who to ask and where...wouldn't it make sense to start here. :)

Okay I've created an account on the dark mod forums and so I'll find the people who made the audio tracks (if I can) and I'll ask for their permission and obviously give credit :thumb:

All our assets are released under a creative commons license, so as long as you're not planning on selling your FM, it's fine to use TDM assets. A credit is certainly appreciated.
