Hi all. I just got Deadly Shadows for xmas and I figured I'd go dig out my old Thief I & II cds and play through again to catch myself up on the plot. I got Metal Age working just fine, but Dark Project has me tearing my hair out.
First there was the codec issue, but that was easily sorted with a bit of googling and an intel download. The texture error, though, I've been fighting for two days now. I tried editing my config files, downgrading from my 9.x driver to 8.4, and doing both at once. I changed my hardware acceleration settings. No dice.
So then I tried downloading the 1.14 texture patch, as per the FAQ at this site (great resource, by the way). The problem is, when I try to launch the game with the fixed .exe from the Circle website, I get a "no CD" error.
That error is a flagrant lie; it's particularly blatant when it coughs up from the splash screen on the CD.
I partition my hard drives, so I thought there might be something in the thieffixed.exe that was forcing it to look on D:\ when it should have been looking for J:\ - so I tried renaming my cd drive to D, to no avail. It's still kicking out a "no CD" error.
I found another suggestion on a thread somewhere from someone who'd purchased the game as a download from Eidos and so didn't have the CD, which involved copying the CD's contents to the hard drive and pointing the install.cfg file toward that folder; again, totally ineffective. Still getting that damn "no CD" nonsense.
I'm totally tapped on this one; has anyone else encountered this error, or have any idea how to fix it?

Posting links to no-cd patches isn't allowed here, but try to find one anyway. It may take away the part of Thief that checks for the CD entirely.
