That would be cool to have TG missions on T2!

I have all the games in the Thief series, I was just thinking of something along the lines of (
http://www.blackmesasource.com) Black Mesa.
I guess the Thief 2: Dark Project will suffice for now.
EDIT: Something along the lines of what Digital Nightfall was saying, not a port, but a recreation with the more advanced AI/models/sprites, etc.
Digital Nightfall on 17/4/2007 at 02:32
Yeah, TG on T2 would be cool Phantom, and if someone did it, every time someone tried to promote it here, their post would be deleted, and if we were extra grouchy, we could even ban them. :thumb: Way cool.
Same goes for that Thief 2: The Dark Project thing.
Something more like the Black Mesa Source mod would be fine, though. It's a recreation, not a port.

You'll be happy to know that we (should) be getting the Thief 2 Gold missions (at least, evolved versions of them) released as FMs, though. (T2G development never finished before LGS went under).
A number of fans have taken on the project to finish them up and release them, and unless I'm mistaken there really isn't any copyright issue involved, since their base mission files were made publically available to the fan community.
So it's about the closest we can get to getting our hands on freely-released actual Canon material that we can play. Now that is something cool we can cheer for.

I think such a project isn't a popular idea also because it would take a lot of work to create something already made, when that time could have been spent on something new. There are fan campaign projects already out there that could really use the help aside from this.
It doesn't stop people suggesting it every five minutes though. The second most commonly-asked question after "Is there going to be a Thief 4?" seems to be "Is anybody going to remake $ORIGINAL_GAME in $NEW_ENGINE?".
For some reason people seem to view the original levels as some kind of Holy Grail that should be replicated into every new game engine which appears on the market, despite the fact that there are loads of original fan missions which are equivalent or better in quality. I simply can't understand why people would rather rehash the old instead of creating the new.

There's security in the familiar O.W. That said, I think it's just a matter of personal preference. I happen to agree that there are more than a few FMs out there that are just as good if not better than the OMs, btw.

Disagree heartily with OrbWeaver's assertion. I've yet to see a fan mission that even comes close to a mission like The Haunted Cathedral. And I'd guess the reason people like myself venerate those missions is because they define quality differently to you, OW...e.g.
* Professionally-written readables, Garretquips, NPC dialogue (i.e. no immersion-killers, breaking the fourth wall, Things Garrett Wouldn't Say, etc.)
* Credible voice acting (see Cult of the Ressurection for how not to do it)
* Variety of locations/NPCs
* Mission structure where the player's journey has actually been thought-out, with just enough freedom of exploration to make for an entertaining journey
Final point, above, is probably the hardest for any fan author to pull off, but all of them are equally important, to me, and dissuade me from nearly all fan efforts. Not even interested in T2X, although that's mainly due to the unfortunate inclusion of customised weapons. Guess that makes me a purist.
Every single FM I've played has suffered from at least one dealbreaking fault. Usually, poor English. The OMs of the first Thief game, conversely, were years in development, lovingly-crafted with a compelling narrative thread, and crammed with subtle features to surprise and delight the player.
FMs can be a fun diversion (if you check your brain at the door), but there's nothing like the real thing.

Don't know what you've been playing exactly, but I've played plenty of FM's that meet or exceed the original missions.

Oh noes,
customised weapons? Next you'll be telling us that some "Fan missions" actually use
textures that weren't in the original games!!!!Seriously, if you arbitrarily define quality as "whatever was done in Thief 1" then of course you are going to find FMs substandard. That is, of course, your choice, but don't bother trying to convince anybody else that the standard of FMs is universally poor because it simply isn't a credible position.
