The Anthology's great, but I only realised how great recently.
Like you, I had it sat on the shelf after getting about half way through Winter Assault and then getting bored.
But recently I decided to fire up Dark Crusade, and the new campaign format was a revelation, making the single player game much more enjoyable and a lot less linear.
While the degree of control isn't as good as in SupCom and the cover system is laughable (walls may as well not exist at all; it seems every unit can see and fire through them), the pacing and setting are unrivaled.
I don't play RTS games online, so I can't comment on balance, but it's thoroughly enjoyable offline.
As for the announcement of DoW2, pretty much saw that one coming, but looking forward to it.
Improvements from CoH are welcome.
While I enjoyed CoH, it didn't grab me like DoW, but technically it is a much more accomplished game.

- Dawn of War 2 sounds pretty silly. Another dawn?
- Let's hope it will be more like DoW and less like WA/DC
- CoH engine or GTFO
- Coop campaign?
- I wonder if the mods for DoW will actually get out of beta before DoW2 arrives har har har

I've been playing through the main campaign in soulstorm. I tried Sisters of Battle (are they not part of the witchunters?) and Dark eldar but found them to be somewhat boring. Restarted with Tau and I'm loving it, they're just so much fun to use (eldar would be close second).
I go through stints of online play once every now and then but when you're constantly bombarded by the poor level of maturity of those online rooms I always feel I'm better off against the AI.
As for DoW II. I'm looking forward to it. After 3 expansions that did very little to change the gameplay I'd love to see some changes that are more than graphical. I guess its limited given that DoW is a computerised version of the TT game.

Dark Eldar were the first race I tried outside of the space marines. And I`ve played all of the expansions as well.
Find them to be a very cool race overall.
What I`m wondering with DoW 2 though is, will they include all of the 9 already added races from DoW 1 and its expansions, or start back at Space Marines, Orcs and Eldar again. I bloody well hope not.
If they do go with the 9 already added races, then they`d HAVE to add the Tyranids and just deal with all the "omg u stole them from Starcraft" bullshit.

I'm sure the Tyranid mod guys are already organising some sort of denial campaign.
I'm also willing to bet that the portability of assets between the DoW engine and Essence 2.0 is going to be relatively easy, (the hard part being re-rigging the infantry for the Havok physics) so it's well possible we'll be seeing quite a few races when all is said and done.

(
http://www.dawnofwargame.com/us/news/article/newsId/1215) Official Announcement Press Release. And tomorrow dawnofwar2.com goes live. Expect the slow trickle of information leading up to E3 which will see a short burst of (likely largely redundant) more info, followed by further slow trickle until public beta and release.

Wait. Wasn't E3 dead?
Also for some bizzare reason I can't even enter my age at that site.

Yes, but it's a Necron.
