The one feature with all RTS is resource gathering. This is what I consider a yawnfest as the more time I spend gathering resources means less time fighting.
Try Dawn of War then, it's pretty intense in that department. :thumb:

So they're trying something new?
It's not new, Warcraft 3 had drops, and nice of you to completely miss the point that in W3 it (somewhat)made sense while in DoW2 it
won't. It's just stupid.

Archaeotech? Reclaiming an Imperial recruiting world? There are a few ways one could fluff up acquiring artefacts in 40K.

They're moving away from yawnfest
resource collection and moving into purely tactical gameplay.

DoW is a yawnfest
after you have seen all the unit types and the missions become variations of "go here kill everything".On topic: I agree with DaBeast in that the fun part of an RTS is not sitting while I gather resources until I hit the troops cap. I also enjoyed Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy because of how it forced you to use the troops and equipment available to complete the mission- you need good strategy and thinking, and can't just keep on spamming the 'build' button.
However, I think that perhaps it's a little too early to condemn their choice of equipment system. One of the best strengths of any miniatures wargame is the flexibility in equipment. Adding this to an RTS is a good change in my opinion. Of course, they could totally screw up, which is why I'm going to reserve judgment on the execution itself.

And for the
third time, have you played DoW? Follow me up here: Unlike other RTSes where resources are patches of... stuff... always close to your starting position, in DoW they're points scattered all over the map. How fast do you think the skirmishes begin over them? You
can't just sit in your base building up forces, it's simply impossible. You need to capture points all the time, ergo, you will be clashing with the enemy all the time. And the first enemy encounter should be within first one-two minutes, depending on the map size. Saying that resource gathering in DoW in a yawnfest is simply lying, and the stupid kind, not the smart kind.
Unless, of course, all you ever played in DoW was the campaign. But then seriously, what the hell is wrong with you?
DaBeast on 24/4/2008 at 06:45
Did you miss the part where I said I've got all the DoW games?
Seriously though, and follow me up on this, why are you trying so hard to be a dick?
