No crosshair on higher difficulties -- some servers set it that way.

yeh I figured that out. Well this game is pretty awesome, but couple of things, I think the map is too big, or some sort of driveable vehicles would be cool, but only a limited number. You get could get around fast, but at the same time attract a huge amount of attention from players and zombies. Also some sort of melee combat, although thats probly more to do with the arma2 engine itself I guess.

You can actually repair vehicles if you have all the right parts; you can then drive them around the map and yes, they do attract zombies.
Hell, you can even repair (some) helicopters.

ok thats pretty sweet, I did wonder why one of the dudes I looted had a fuel tank on him.

Took another jaunt to the NW Airstrip this morning. As the Winny has been nerfed and ammo for the M1014 seems to be sparse, I picked up an M16 with under-barrel grenade launcher :D
There seems to be lots of M1014 ammo at the airstrip itself, but as clips only contain 8 rounds, it strikes me as far more sensible to go with the M16 that has 30 rounds per clip. It also has an effective range of 400m, which ain't too shabby at all.
Looking through the updated weapons page on the (
http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Weapons) Wiki, it looks like the Remington could still be a good choice, even with the small clip size. Low noise and an attached flashlight are very appealing. At the moment, I've found a handheld flashlight which is currently sitting in my pack, but if I want to use it, it replaces my sidearm, and I've grown quite attached to my M1911.
I've also found some woodpiles, but they take up 2 inventory slots. Having to gather wood for a fire may very well be more realistic, but it's made the game more of a pain in the ass as well.
Again, I think Rocket has to be careful that his added "Features" don't drive players away. Sure, it was always meant to be somewhat a protest against just how casual and mainstream the industry has become, but you can push too hard.
As it stands, this update hasn't made life
too much harder so far, but if the pursuit of realism continues at the same pace, with servers being dark at times people log in to play, infection from temperature becoming rife with antibiotics being incredibly rare and other such features, it may end up driving people away.

infection from temperature
Great, so old wives' tales are now being implemented as mechanics.
ETA: A hypothermia mechanic might fit better instead.

I'm currently camping near Berezino, but I'm at 1200hp and can't do anything alone due to passing out constantly. Malf/Duck/whoever is playing, I would appreciate if you trekked here. We could raid more bloodbags etc. from the hospital and city meanwhile.
Malf on 24/5/2012 at 12:44
Yeah, I'm up for that. Duck & I made it to the NW Airfield this morning after I gave him a blood transfusion. I'm keen to raid the hospital again to stock up on blood bags.
I'll take a quick look around the airfield from where I left it this morning (see if I can find the elusive NVGs), then start making my way over to Berezino.
You're not really in any danger from other players over there, as most don't realise it's a full city with a hospital and therefore ignore it.
Just don't piss off the zeds :D

If I can get it installed and run through some tutorials I am going to try to join in today or tomorrow; is there any way to contact eachother in game? What times are you normally playing?
Also, still trying to get the ARMA II mouse to stop being wonky, it feels floaty even with smoothing turned off.
