This was the best gaming session this far. Waiting for a rainstorm to pass while zeds moan around the house you're hiding, getting inland with bare minimums, dropping to 9 tempval at some point and getting an infection. Meeting up with Malf and slowly gathering pretty much all the gear one would need and finding that tent city.
Then getting dropped while reading the bloody map. At least Malf got the bandit.
This is why this game is awesome.

Well, I've just gotten situated in the game with an AK, an ALICE pack, and a shit-ton of experience. My Steam handle is currently Oklahoma Jones. I don't have DayZ on Steam but would work for coordination at least.

There's nothing more satisfying than winning against a bandit. And the temperature system is great, it really keeps you thinking about cover and fires and such, never lit the barrels you find standing around before but now i find myself doing it all the time and i carry two piles of wood with me at all times. :)
I got to the NE airfield yesterday, i liked the area a lot but got a bit careless while clearing out the zombies and when trying to run into the control tower for cover i got stuck in some barbed wire that was put across the doorway andthe stairway made it impossible to climb over it so i was knocked down and half eaten.
When i shot the last zombie and bandaged myself i had -4 blood! They had broken my legs and i fainted non stop.
I had enough food to get me to 500 blood or so so i snuck back and fourth across the airfield to scrounge up more food and weapons while fainting non stop. I did this for hours until i passed out, fell and snapped my neck while climbing the ladder to the control tower.
But i did reach the airfield so mission accomplished, now to gather some new gear and head for the NW airfield. :)

Well bugger, I died this morning after reaching a heady 590 kills.
I joined a low population but oddly laggy American server having made my way to Berezino and back to Stary Sobor then losing session. There were only 4 of us on this new server, so I figured I'd be fine looting the tents.
Big mistake.
I'm beginning to think that flashlights are just a massive liabilty. I got to the last tent while using my G17's built-in flashlight, when I got shot in the back 4 times by what sounded like a fecking Makarov.
I'd found the largest pack in the game earlier too.
Gutted :(

Stary Sobor seems to be a popular place to be, probably because it's so central. I got shot in the outskirts the only time i went that way. Only prooves that paranoia pays off, at least in towns.
I've been thinking about flashlights lately and from how far you can see them, they don't attract zombies much, i've been shining light in their faces at close range many time without a reaction but players is a different matter, something worth finding out because they make the night game a lot nicer, especially when it's raining.

Do I need to buy the full version of Arma 2 to play the mod, or does it also work with the free version?

I've heard that you can use the demo version of Arma 2 as long as you have the full version of the expansion Operation Arrowhead. It should be easy enough to google though, i do know a lot of people are asking.

I made it to Devil's castle today and made the really stupid mistake of running upright when i was leaving, i got jumped and knocked to the ground by 5 Z's, passed out as i was eaten alive.
BUT i actually managed to navigate back there from the east coast using only my shadow for direction and a map for landmarks. My body and gear was still there as i arrived and i lost nothing but time.
Arma 2 being a sim has a ton of advantages when it comes to using the environent like that. :)
I found a hatchet for woodchopping! I think i might be bugged though because neither a fire nor a heat pack i found did anything to raise my body heat. Hopefully it will resolve itself.
Finally made it to the NW airfield! Going to sneak around it in the shadows tonight when it's dark. :)

@dj ivocha - you can use the arma2 free version, but you have to put the "addons" folder from the arma2 free install into the OA install folder, then inside the addons you place all the dayz files.
