Call me when it's 1.0 and I can play offline.

If you want singleplayer you'll probably be better off with State Of Decay. I can't imagine DayZ being much fun in singleplayer, unless they add missions to it. Just surviving in the wilderness wouldn't be fun for long without an overarching goal or something to work towards.

As far I know they plan to include it but it's not the focus until they get bugtesting and balance and whatnot taken care of. That being said, I don't care if there's no goal -- I'll make my own goal.

Bought it, if only to bugtest.
I recorded my first game. I was checking out a building and heard footsteps below, so stood in the dark stairway waiting patiently with a shovel, and the guy freaked out when he bumped into me. Later I glitched into the air and fell to my death.

They weren't kidding. It really isn't worth getting right now unless you have good reason.

Apparently it won't go into beta for another year and final release won't happen until 2015. Bizarre. I guess I don't understand what takes so long when the mod was working perfectly fine back in early 2012.

essentially netcode issues apparently. The server max is only 40, fog is enabled to minimise fps drop, the barest of features. I really feel like they have been forced to release the alpha while there is still interest. A few of my dayz mates have tried it and said the existing mod is superior, at least at this stage.
And then someone will port the arma2 dayz mod into arma3.

The standalone feels like less of a mod and more like a real game- certainly the controls aren't as wonky.
Inventory management is brilliant, almost as good as SS2.
Hunger and thirst are much more of a concern than in the mod, in my opinion too much.
Vehicles are next to nonexistent. In hours of gameplay, I haven't seen one.
Collision detection and first-person weapon views need work- consider the shovel in your video which was blocking your view.
Flashlights currently point to the lower left part of your view, for some reason.
And finally, for better or worse they got rid of global chat.
BTW, next time you're bleeding, you can right-click on a shirt and tear it into rags to bandage yourself with!

The problem with DayZ Mod is that the game is essentially broken. To wit:
-Zombies are not smart enough to be much of a menace.
-Getting shot once is pretty much a game over, and the loss of hours of scavenging.
-After your first few times encountering another survivor who says "Friendly! Friendly!" and then shoots you for absolutely no reason, you start shooting on sight.
-What do you do when there's no real challenge, and everyone's trigger-happy anyway?
Eventually, the game tends toward not survival in a zombie apocalypse (which would be interesting) but an open-world deathmatch with a few relatively ineffective bots wandering around. This stems out of the fact that creating a PvE game is hard, while making PvP is easier. It doesn't help things that Rocket Hall, the lead dev for DayZ, seems to be pretty dead-set against building in mechanics that would encourage players helping each other, in favor of 'realism'.
I bought the standalone, and I'm still holding out hope- but the game needs to encourage players to work together, not snipe new spawns with their 'clan'.

Agreed, but how to do it? A morality or karma system of some kind? Or maybe make the zombie presence increased and/or inventory decreased so it's tough to survive without some kind of help.
I bought the standalone too, mainly because I know at some point I'll shell out for it anyway, so why not just get it now? It's not much of a game at the moment - I played for an hour today on a nearly full server, and I never once saw another player and only saw 2 zombies total.
