Dayport has its secrets, still. - by ZergMasterBaiter

Lately I've been replaying Metal Age's excellent Life of the Party. I remember obsessing about that level quite a lot back in the day, trying different routs, looking for every single piece of loot or avoiding saves, ect. Now I reload it again, expecting to be familiar with all the nooks and cranies of this most extensive level and go for an easy speedrun. But surprise, surprise, I stumble on something I don't believe I've seen before (or maybe just totally forgot about).
Thus, on his way back from Anglewatch, tired from hauling all his newly-acquired loot, Garrett is looking for a quicker route back to the Bell-tower. After passing by the Rothechild's open window (the husband and wife were still arguing about not being invited to Karras' party) he gets sidetracked. One well-placed vine arrow, a jump over the side of a rickety balcony ... and here it was before him. A huge circular metal door, guarding a reservoir of precious water on the other side. But no sunken treasure :(. Yet once inside, the opening in the cistern's hight stone ceiling calls to Garrett with its promise of City's hidden secrets.
I'm stuck. I only have one vine arrow and no matter how I shoot it, when I try climbing and lifting myself up onto the mysterious passage above, Garrett just doesn't have enough strength to climb into the tunnel (this tunnel is stone, while the vertical chute leading to it is wooden, ergo perfect for the vine arrow). Am I being obsessive-compulsive for no reason here? Is this perhaps and exit rather an entrance? I don't remember wading through stone sewer-like tunnels and falling into a large reservoir of water on any of my previous visits to this part of Dayport? Never really needed a walkthrough when playing the Life of the Party before, as I thought it was pretty straight forward but this got me excited about the level all over again :D .

Yeah, I also discovered that route only on my 3rd playthrough. It leads to a ledge near the thieves' hideout, and is just a shortcut.

Yeah, although you shouldn't be stuck, Zerg'. But I do notice that trying to go in that direction up the shaft, the air brush is acting like a solid, so mantling is failing.

Yeah I was pretty much done, just needed to get back to the belltower. But the shaft had me sorta stuck because I wasted 20 minutes splashing around in the water, trying to scale an unmantlable shaft. Climbing ropes, ladders was one of the few things in Thief series that could have been done better in my opinion.
