Whereas Dead State seems more like the Necropolis from Fallout 1 with a few extra bells and whistles.
Not that such a thing doesn't excite me in new and interesting ways.

Yeah, s'pose. There's some tension between whether you can do that sort of RPG-ish thing from first person it seems. Anything a bit manage-y gets a slightly detached point of view. It's weird.
For a complete aside, it'll be interesting to see how Irrational manage to mix them up with that X-Com game.
I think Dead State implied they were somewhat more dynamic with the way the survivors' stress helps them band together or fracture from within (which is the the meat (ar ar) of any zombie story). The way Dead Island looks that sort of thing will be more contained in semi linear plot points. Which is fine, it's just Dead State will be more impressive, if they manage to make that work.

Looks really cool, I am digging the whole "central safehouse of people trying to survive and repair trucks/ships/antennas while sending you on missions to infested town" concept. It does look hella moody when when they show the stormy weather and dark skies in the last minute! XP markers dont bug me, I kinda stopped paying attention to them after about 5 minutes.
Also agreeing this isn't really survival horror, more like a standard fps/adventure in a zombie universe. Which isn't necessarily bad. But it seems like these days ANYTHING with zombies is dubbed "survival."
And I hope the writing is better in the final game: "Nun: It's God's will you come here. Agreed?" [yes] / [no] :tsktsk:

I mean does it even serve a purpose to see how much xp you get ? Is it really necessary ? I mean it makes sense in a diablo clone but not in a first person survival horror game.
Maybe it's a first person diablo clone?

I guess we didn't watch the same video.

Not quite sure what to make of it so far. Combat is sufficient visceral, and the atmosphere is good. But you choose at the beginning between throwing, firearms, bashing or stabbing specialists, and then there are no guns to be found, and only kitchen knives for princess stabitty, while there's something large to bash with every three feet.

I haven't gotten a copy, but based on the videos and articles I've read, it seems like it is worth a playthrough. Yeah, it's buggy from what I've heard, but hopefully it will get better in the months to come with patches.
Also, the notion that there are no guns in the game is not entirely accurate unless the trailers I've seen are bullshit. (There are weapons at some point in the game, but they're limited and you don't get a lot of ammo. At least that's what I've heard, can't confirm.)

Has anyone got this on PC? Apparently the version that they uploaded to Steam was the alpha build for 360 that was sent to Microsoft for certification with PC tools attached. The first patch is rumoured to only have deleted some of the dev tools and unbind noclip from Y. It seems like its a fun game but it has had one of the biggest fail releases (for PC) I can remember.

That must explain why there's been a lot of problems with it. I have some friends who have the PC version and talked about the game crashing, among other issues. That is a major fail.
