I don't think universal ammo is much of a change. If anything, it's a lot more believable than only ever finding ammunition for weapons you use, which was the biggest immersion-breaker for me in the previous games. I also don't understand why the article says that 'the limited ammunition was a very interesting feature', since I had plenty of cash to spend on ammo in the shops, and always ended up being able to keep five hundred or more Pulse rounds in my inventory at all times.
Necromorph zombies sounds a bit overly cliche though.

I actually like the ammo system in the 2 games. It makes sure you will get good ammo supplies no matter what weapon you choose, instead of one weapon being less "fed" than others by the level designer. But of course a well balanced, static ammo placement would make a lot more sense, and I would like that much better than a universal ammo system.

I agree about rather having static ammo placement like System Shock, as that really forced you to work with what was available and didn't give you the luxury of always using your favorite gun. 9/10 times when an enemy dropped ammo in Dead Space, it was for a weapon you possess, which allows the player to use the system in a seriously immersion-breaking and very game-y way (like, 'I better sell this gun so the enemies stop carrying ammo for it').
All I'm saying is that as it is, if you are just using one or two weapons, your experience is no different from if the enemies were to drop universal ammo, because the game is already making sure that you almost always find stuff you can use right now.

Is anybody buying this day one?
I'm on the fence. I love the games, but I'm a bit worried I might not like the new one with the changes in the gameplay. I'm also annoyed that "Limited Edition" actually means "only edition" and they justify making you spend an extra 10 bucks because of it.
I've got my finger on the trigger and I'm hesitant to pull, I don't think the "waiting 6 months for a steam sale" strategy will work on Origin, so I might not get a good deal like a 5 or 10 anytime in the near future.
What are you guys planning? I know i'm going to want to play it right out the gate.

Nope. Played the demo, highly impressed with the strides they made with the engine. Great snowscapes and all, very evocative of The Thing.
But the way it screams microtransactions, with the menu proposing item swaps with buddies, the lack of any sense of real isolation that comes with a tooled-up buddy coming along with, the overweening lack of imagination with that new necromorph that bodes ill for the game's design in general, the stupid reverse Pac Man Benny Hill section with the drill, and the complete lack of horror or buildup just makes me go :erg:
So... nope. Maybe when it's on sale. Maybe.

is the demo on origin? I didn't know there was one? *investigates*

Nah, it's only on the consoles, as usual.
