Agreed, but I had the gun maxed out by the third level. It was all I used through the whole game (and it made bosses a snap) but it could easily be combined with the Line Gun for late game.

I'd offer a save game but it looks like all the ones I have are too late, and on impossible. Maybe there's a trainer or something that would let you temporarily change the difficulty to easy?
Worst comes to worst you can email me your save game and I'll play through the asteroid bit and send it back.
