Thanks for the tips guys. Yeah, loving the sounds.

The thing with the assault rifle to remember is that it's not a precision gun, so you probably won't have much luck trying to skillfully dismember limbs with well-placed shots. Instead, hold down the fire button, and aim it in the general direction of each limb. The power of the rifle isn't that it does tons of damage to kill them quickly, but that it doesn't need to be used on the limbs to get kills and it flinches the enemies when just a couple of rounds hit.

Certainly looks wonderful.
I'm just a bit worried that they've messed up the pacing, and focused a bit more on the action, and they've been holding back on all the upgrade and inventory stuff so far.

This game has been pretty tough so far, which I like, but now it's got frustratingly hard and not because I suck or because its tough but because one of the gameplay mechanics is broken.
I'm fighting the Leviathan and kinesis against the things he spits out is borked. Well it's unreliable. I easily take the 1st three tentacles out (2 shots a piece from my ) and I can't be bothered taking out the 2nd three so I'm just trying to kill the main bit (which I know you can do).
The super dumb thing about these projectiles is once one hits you you'll get hit by the next lot because it knocks you down.
Strike one for gameplay: you should never put in position where losing a little health also comes with a disadvantageous position that guarantees death. NB: a deadly single hit that is instakill is fine because it's meant to be instakill. This is a broken mechanic.
Using kinesis is very powerful here - I managed to sporn a first tier kill (when you get the 2nd round of tentacles coming out) using it alone once. Catch and return the projectiles. But its so unreliable that in order to use this method to defeat the boss I'll just have to try and try again and hope I get lucky.
Strike two for gameplay: all gameplay mechanics should be reliable within their own confines. I'm not asking for a miracle here; if I have the option to do something it should be reproducible. A gun should fire when I press fire 100% of the time, unless there is some explicit reason (no ammo, jam, degradation) for it not to. Being unreliable without cause should not be a feature/option.
PS. The first time I went in there and saw the damn thing all fuzzy in the background was a  moment. The sense of scale in here and in other places (the Bridge!) is great.
So I'm kind of stuck, which is a shame because I've had a blast so far. Although this is a very different game to SS2, especially in how linear it is, it just gets my SS juices flowing. Hydroponics was a beautiful level and lets be honest here these guys have taken so much from SS2 it's like some messed up rip-off/homage. :thumb:

@ SubJeff
(Boss killing spoilers)
You do know your in zero G, right? You can jump around to dodge projectiles and get better angles. And you and kenesis the projectiles literally as soon as they leave its mouth if you get up close and do it. If you stay moving through the air your pretty much safe from even taking damage if you get right up in its face, provided you can keep one or two of the tentacles dead at a time. Just kill one of those, jump to the "empty" side, grab the projectiles out of its mouth before they can accelerate and fire them back in, lather rinse repeat.
If you stay close then you can just aim for the critters mouth and catch them every time. It involves alot more tentacle dodging then you would need to do otherwise, but I have never failed to catch a projectile doing it that way.

I'll try getting closer but it's not the range that's the issue its the reliability of the kinesis.
I'll report back when I've had a go.
Edit: yeah, being closer worked. Kinesis was reliable.
I've a new hate/frustration in this game. 2 actually. Zero gravity - because I can't see where they are coming from until they are on top of me. No fun. And those suicide bomb things. It takes too many shots to detonate the bomb sac!
Zygoptera on 15/6/2010 at 22:57
You can shoot the bomb sack from their arms or chop their legs off, then detonate the bomb at your leisure (preferably when there are other enemies nearby as they make nice improvised mines).
I always killed the leviathan by just shooting it in the mouth. Took ages but it also meant there was almost chance of getting damaged let alone killed.

A burst of fire to the yellow sac was usually enough to drop the kamikazes. The two enemies I found most annoying were the fat, pregnant ones (tons of health and a screwup results in those godawful ammo-eating vermin), and the wall-hanging ones (since they take a lot of firepower and also spew turrets).

This game would really benefit from a 1st person mod. I know there isn't one but one can wish.
