What's the big deal? If the story is really that great, spoilers shouldn't make it any less so... unless it's already not that great to start with.
Actually, this reminds me once again of BS, with KL warning the players of how reading spoilers will ruin their incredible experience with the game and stuff. Yeah...

Spoilers tend to spoil, in case that isn't obvious. I like to play a game and not know what awaits me (bosses, big events, you get the idea).
Though if one doesn't like the game, spoilers lose their negativity imo.

Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but I didn't find the launch trailer to be too spoilery or anything.

well, i liked how the trailers actually didn't give away much (as opposed to the comics/featurettes i presume - i didn't look at those) but this one now took me by surprise and I thought others would like to know.

Most of the time, it's easy to see it coming anyway, even without spoilers.
I don't understand how a spoiler could entirely ruin a player's experience. Games such as AVP2 are heavily scripted, but after my, like, ninth playthrough, I still find that the plot itself is enjoyable and pretty clever, and that some parts remain scary despite scripted events.
On the other hand, the more I play SS2, the more I get bored with the plot. Yeah, the gameplay and atmosphere are still nice and scary, but the plot itself is... ugh... It just relies too much on cheap scripts and that one big twist. Once you get past that, it goes downhill...

Not at all. In some cases, they actually make you want to play the damn game.

I saw the trailer before everyone went into 'DANGER! DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!!' mode with it.
Yeah, it's got spoilers, but it's been put together really well. Whomever chose to back it to that particular Sigur Rós song was a genius.
I think it must've set off some subconscious vibes, because I find that I've purchased a copy of Sunshine after my trip to the store today. Must've been one of those subliminal messages or somethin'.
Oh well, I could've done worse than a Danny Boyle/Alex Gardner movie. At least I didn't pick up a copy of Event Horizon.

I use a Deus Ex spoiler here to make an example, do not read if you haven't played/plan to play the game. :p
It had a pretty big impact when I was told, before having a clue it would happen, that Jock would get blown up with his helicopter in Deus Ex. Right there I was robbed of an emotional moment. It didn't completely ruin the experience, but it definitely left a scar. :erg: On my second runthrough I paid closer attention and noticed that mechanic acting funny, managed to save Jock that time around.

Well, if you were robbed of an emotional moment, could it simply be because you didn't really care about the character? Maybe the scene wasn't really well put together?
I mean, I never played Deus Ex long enough to get past the training levels, so I don't really know about that scene, but I have yet to be convinced.
I remember in FEAR (not the best example, but anyway), you have to save some VIP, only to see him die minutes later. I was, like, "yeah, like I didn't see that coming, it would have been too good to be true to have them NOT kill an already useless NPC for dramatic purposes".
The same goes for BS: I didn't read spoilers about the plot, still I wasn't exactly impressed by the big "surprising" moments. Actually, I ended finding most of them kinda lame and predictable. The "nothing looks like what it seems" thing has been done to death, anyway.
On the other hand, I must admit, I knew about Liquid's plan (about him impersonating Master Miller and the DARPA chief being actually Decoy Octopus in disguise) in MGS1 before playing the game. Still, I thought that twist was pretty clever. Also, back in FEAR, having Alma appearing as the player climbs a ladder (as seen in the trailer) was a pretty cool move. It managed to startle me, even though I was kinda expecting it.
It's all in the execution, I say.

I'm waffling on whether to get this - like I am with Far Cry 2 - because of the SecuROM. I really hate the idea of supporting EA and other companies that use it. But I don't want to be a freeloader because of that, and drive PC gaming further into the ground. And I don't see the situation changing any time soon, so do I just shut myself off from a lot of good titles coming out?
Fuck. Though, I certainly won't feel guilty if I buy it and torrent it.
I guess I'll wait for some reviews by TTLG members, before I make my decision. The initial trailers didn't really grab me, but the game keeps looking better every time I see another one.
