Well, if you were robbed of an emotional moment, could it simply be because you didn't really care about the character? Maybe the scene wasn't really well put together?
What are you talking about? If I feel robbed of an emotional moment it means I
did care for the character. Deus Ex is not poorly assembled piece of garbage like Bioshock, we get to know the characters quite well as the game progresses. Jock takes JC to plenty of places with his helicopter before this happens, so I got a chance to be his "friend" through JC. If I hadn't read about his fate beforehand, the event would have had far more impact.
One can save Jock though, but the first time I didn't pay much attention to that mechanic dude and the corpse nearby. :o

I mean, I never played Deus Ex long enough to get past the training levels, so I don't really know about that scene, but I have yet to be convinced.
I think the more important question here is:
th' fuck's wrong wif you

At least he's played a little bit of DX1, unlike Aja. He bursts into the DX3 thread pontificating in favour of auto-heal and cover systems, but finally admits that he's never played it. What an utter tool.

Steady on, guys. Let's tone down the indignant nerd rage shall we?
JohnnyTheWolf on 15/10/2008 at 23:56
Oh, indeed, I tried playing DX1. Several times. Believe me, I tried.

Then how could you feel robbed if you were actually sad that he died, that's what I don't understand. I dunno for you, but knowing that a character I really like will end up being killed at some point will only make me feel sadder about him.
I call it the "Trunk's story" syndrome.

Try harder. It gets better as you go along- much better- and I would say the last third of it or so are sublime.

Last time I tried, it friggin' crashed on me. See, that's the funny thing: when I try to enjoy it, it doesn't work properly. Go figure.
Anyway, that's a different story.

Could you please elaborate on that?
If it's some sort of Dragonball Z reference, then you should really re-evaluate your tastes.

Are we talking about the same game?
If we're talking about DX what I remember was a nice slow start to a game about terrorism and governments that turns to conspiracy theories and so on that bubbles along quite nicely until someone decided to jam their sophomoric philosophy thesis into the dialogue. The back and forths between JC and Helios are among the most painfully fucking overwritten shit I've ever seen in a game. I have a lot of love for DX but that last act is a fucking slog in terms of the dialogue content.
Also, attachment to Jock? Hahaha. Good one.

Not to mention that Paris was a huge let-down, and that fighting radiation shooting aliens is fucking retarded.
