On Chapter 3, just defeated
the first BIG necromorph, that was fun :).Amusingly,
necromorph is just a fancy way of saying
deadthing.

Yet both RE4 and GoW are referred as third-person shooters among the gaming industry.
Yes, they are still third person shooters, but you can't control the camera. The movement feels like a first person shooter where you can see your character.

Whether you can control the camera or not has little bearing on whether something is first person or third person.
God, why do people have such a hard time understanding this very basic concept? Is it the usual TTLG "call a spade a shovel" business?

DETHTOLL
I understand the semantics, but there is a CLEAR DIFFERENCE between what Dead Space appears to be, and what GOW and RE4 are. It fundamentally changes how the game controls.
Ratchet and Clank and Gears of War are both technically 3rd Person Shooters, but they don't play the same AT ALL.

Doom and Call of Duty don't play the same at all either. Doesn't mean they're not both first person shooters.
Call a spade a spade, please. That's all I ask.

From tomb Raider 1 - Angel of Darkness. the Camera was fixed behind Lara.
To turn you had to use the arrow keys. When Legend came out you could control the camera with the mouse and if you pushed forward when the camera was facing a different direction than lara she would automatically turn that direction without the need for arrow keys.
As far as I"m concerned they would both be considered 3rd person. thats been established here. But I wouldn't say that they dont control the same "at all".
One is just more responsive than the other.
And I have to fix my earlier statement. When I said the camera in Dead Space revovles around a point just to the right of the character. Its more like its attached to a visible arm that swings around the character. Because even when you rotate it around to the front and you're facing him he's still on the left hand side of the screen. This is a little different than anything I've played before so thats what took some getting used to.
And I"ve got to say the game keeps surprising me. I've been wandering around absolutely destroying all the monsters I run into without so much as getting hurt. I"m playing on medium difficulty and was wondering where all teh hard stuff was. And then I got attacked by a new monster form and completely got my butt kicked. You gotta keep learning or you'll get clobbered really fast.

Aja, your argument in this thread basically invalidates your prior claim that GoW controlled better with a gamepad.
Aja on 23/10/2008 at 07:56
I don't see how.
The GOW/RE4 style controls, regardless of Gears playing better on Xbox, will, in general, work better than a Thief 3 style camera, especially for a shooting game.
