I agree with that. Bioshock is not very good at keeping immersion - heck - even the LS/BD concept is an immersion breaker for me. The invisible walls are immersion breakers. "Pipemania" hacking is immersion breaker (why not come with at least a few different mechanical based hacking mini-games? Moving around different-sized gears for example). etc...

Bottom line, I think 2K/Irrational could've really come up with a better solution to this design aspect.
And like I said earlier, it doesn't really fit with patched together from parts aesthetic they went for with the guns and turrets which was due to the whole people improvising in a time of civil war.

I didn't have to remap and found the default config for PC pretty OK. I changed to hard as well and this is actually the setting the game was advertised as: low ammo and resources, more tactics in fights (stasis gets actually usefull). this should have been the "normal".
No it shouldn't have been. My brother is an average player and "Normal" is plenty hard enough for him and he's the kind of player that I think normal would be aimed at. For me on the other hand "Hard" is my normal and has been in pretty much any game I play for a long time. The whole point of skill levels is not just to give you a reason to replay with increased challenge but for veteran gamers somewhere to start on so they don't blitz through the game.
An even harder difficulty however might have been welcome though.

Mmm, I'm not too sure if this applies here or not; but there's been (
http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/55647) threats over banning EA accounts over forum posts, which means that you'll be locked out of your games that are tied into that account. I believe Dead Space uses the same kind of silly activation stuff as EA used for Spore and Mass Effects, so the relevant individuals might want to keep an eye out. The one thing that casts doubt on this is that it has happened before, and that the previous statements were corrected by someone higher up as it was grossly inaccurate and against EA policy. Then again, this is EA we're talking about.

Are there any chances of a demo of this on any platform?

Is there a higher difficulty after completing the game ?
I read somewhere that the game unlocks an insane difficulty after you finish it.
Hard difficulty is definitely, well . . . difficult! And for me that's great. Bioshock's idea of a hard difficulty level was a joke. I felt like I was in god mode all the time. In Dead Space though, I'm getting my ass handed to me about half the time.

Doesn't look like they're going to bother with one. I've heard no news about a demo.

Yeah when you beat the game you get:
- insane difficulty
- a military suit
- some monies
- and some power nodes
I beat it last night. The ending is a bit weak, but doesn't stop the rest of the game from being amazing.

Damn, all the people saying the game is good! If there only was a demo :(

I'm still into far cry and considering ditching this one for AFTER Mirror'sEdge but I can say it's good enough to get it. just don't expect anything in the story/logic/graphics departement. rest like design and gameplay is good enough or better: not insulting. gore is still not what I would think of as real gore. for such "horrific" depictions you witness it somehow still feels a little "clean" and "conservative".....most goes out to the sound-design which makes no sense whatsoever but proves effective (some sounds are just magic/phantasy land and have no root even in this ScFi universe, not to speak off unrealistic sound processing). it's odd, the sum of all "half-assed" parts of the game is more. maybe it's just that screeching, puss-spewing monsters on spaceships have a special place in my heart.

I think it's well worth trying out down the line when it's cheaper for any of you guys having that Shock craving. Just because it rips off so many sci fi movies and games (and it does, very blatently) doesn't mean you can't enjoy the atmosphere and combat mechanics. There are a few other much better releases right now that you'll probably skip this for, but keep it in mind when we have the inevitable drought later on. The engine is quite well optimised, on my mid-range rig the performance was fantastic and the loading times were phenomenal.

That's a pretty strange assessment, considering that on a 5.1 system, it's got one of the most immersive and convincingly spooky sound fields I've heard since, well, ever. It's one of the major reasons why I'd recommend the game - if you're going to play it, either play it on 5.1 speakers or a
good set of headphones.
And what are these magic/phantasy sounds that you speak of, and why are there restrictions to where they can be used?
