Hell... either the people here started to see things or I'm gone nuts already.

Lovely....
such a massive debate over trivial levels of graphical detail, coming from people that would defend any other game with "Its not the graphics that count!!"

Yeah I dunno guys. Doom3 and Dead Space definitely have their similarities. They rip off Shock 2 quite a bit but make it way simpler. Doom3 is loaded with audio logs and locked containers. Dead Space has the store, upgrades, logs, etc. All of the games are atmospheric and immersive, and are a good time.
Doom3 is more of a shooter, certainly. And DS's combat is basically RE4. Whether one is more immersive or not is very subjective.

Every modern console game looks graphically on par with games from 2004/2005 either A. developed exclusively for PC or B. with the PC as the lead platform.
??
So you're telling me that FEAR (which won IGN's 05 award for best PC graphics, and was developed with PC as lead platform) looks graphically on par with the best modern console games? You're right, I don't understand your point. Just because these old games supported specific special effects doesn't mean the end result should look as good as a modern implementation.

Software running on both current gen HD consoles hit the ceiling awhile ago. Look at the most recent UE3.0 games, the quality of the art assets still look like something on PC from 2004/2005. There's only so much that you can squeeze with compression, at the end of the day both consoles still only have a total of 512MB shared memory.

If Doom 3 had audio logs and messages to read, it would have been a new system shock for sure.
Er, as 242 said, it did.
And I'm sorry if you were trying to be sarcastic, but I'm just gonna have to refer you to (

Turning Vsync off helps a little bit for me, but moving the mouse slowly enough (such as for precise aiming) won't move the cursor one bit. It's so lazy of them to not even make a proper mouse class, instead they make the mouse move a 'virtual joystick' which then moves the camera.

Yes, the quality of art assets hasn't really changed. But other things certainly have. Especially with the unreal 3 games, like Bioshock and Gears 2, the quality of lighting is dramatically better than ANYTHING in 05, and post-processing effects too. I think geometry has probably increased too, either that or they're just using a ton of special effects to hide it if it hasn't. Nothing in Doom 3 or Fear approaches the levels of geometry seen in the newest 360 games. I suspect you aren't actually
looking at these games if you don't think Bioshock's graphics are an improvement on Doom 3's.

You obviously haven't played the PC version of Condemned.

Agreed. Which was done on the Jupiter engine. Some of the best particle usage I've seen.
