I'm pretty much about to buy this game, but are many of the controls/settings not customizable? And is it true no patch will ever be released to fix this?

Controls are customizable just fine. Maybe one or two hardcoded functions.

Dead Space was crashing on start with absolutely no errors for me - if you come across the same problem, try unplugging any controllers you have and restarting the game. Nice catch on that bug, EA.

Who needs a controller for this game anyway? WASD works just fine.

I've read many people who say using an Xbox 360 controller on the PC is preferable to the mouse/keyboard; are there any problems with "mouse smoothing" in aiming mode (i.e. if you move the mouse a bit, it doesn't budge, whereas if you move it more than a bit, it moves way too much)?

Agreed. and if you can manage to force vsync at the hardware level you'll even get a big boost in mouse sensitivity (apparently, I didn't get it to work)

I think I might've gotten lucky. I kept vsync off for the extra performance boost (I rarely turn it on anyway) and had no issue with the mouse. The only difference being the two defense cannon sequences; I had to up the mouse sensitivity for those.

I agree, but that was not entirely the point - the game doesn't care that you're using mouse and keyboard, it will check all USB devices etc for controllers and, in this case, hang. Crawling under my desk to unplug the flightstick/throttle gets boring.

I don't know if this has been talked about or not. Did a search and nothing popped up.
I just picked up the animated movie, Its impressive when you put it next to the likes of Dark Fury since its actually over an hour long.
Problem is... It didn't really explain anything. I suppose its supposed to be a prequel to the game, but it seems to make certain things in the game kind of redundant. Like the meddling doctor messing around with the baddies.

Downfall was only good for that haunting rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Other than that I was terribly bored by it.
The comics were better.
