The ripper is a very good weapon too, once upgraded that is. I can take out a necromorph with just one blade and get rewarded with a pack of 4. It is especially good on the little guys if you don't have the flamethrower handy, too.

How do you use it, Bjossi? I felt that it was underpowered, as it took me forever to cut through even the basic enemies.

The only weapons you need are the plasma cutter and line gun. The rest are more of a liability.
The Assault Rifle was useful toward the end, though its secondary function is piss.

Go for the limbs, the ripper is no good if you attack the main body like with most weapons.
Also, freezing the enemies with stasis first will make cutting off the limbs a
lot quicker and easier.
I have only upgraded one node of the ripper so far, but when fully upgraded I bet it will cut through enemies very quickly, even if you go for the main body.

God, I love this game. My gf just brought it home, and I installed it at work. NICE! I just started 20 mins. ago, but wow. I have been waiting for a game like this for ages...and finally it's here!!!

Not quickly enough man, fully upgraded the ripper, assault rifle and force gun were at the least a let down.

The ripper and force gun are worthless. I used the assault rifle for suppression, the plasma cutter for basic dismemberment (especially in conjunction with stasis), the flamethrower for the little shits as well as softening the bigger shits, and finally the line gun as my main weapon towards the end as I started running out of ammo for the other weapons. Very powerful, and if aimed right with the proper timing you can kill the little baby necromorphs in one shot.

What about the contact beam? I haven't bought that one yet, dunno if I should. Ripper, line gun and plasma cutter are doing the job nicely for me so far.

Also bad. The 4 weapons I mentioned will get you through the game quite handily- that line gun is brutal and chops the tougher monsters in half quite nicely.

I found the Force Gun to be indispensible. One shot at point blank was enough to kill almost any enemy, and none could survive a second once it was upgraded. Coupled with the Plasma Rifle for long range attacks, I didn't need anything else.
