Ran fine on 32-bit XP.

And still does, yes?
Runs fine on my 32-bit XP as well, though I experience a weird sensitivity fluctuation in aim mode if I force vsync in the nV CP. So I run the game with no vsync whatsoever.

I ran it in 32-bit XP with vsync enabled in game and didn't have an issue with the controls other than the standard console-port stuff like "I have a controller with 3 axes plugged in so it's going to think I'm always pushing up and/or down" and "the mouse sensitivity in the menus is totally unrelated to the mouse sensitivity in the actual game" shit.

I find the main menu pointer annoyingly fast, I have to move the mouse very slowly to not lose sight of it.
As for in-game vsync, have you tried comparing loading times with vsync enabled to vsync-disabled ones? Levels loaded much faster for me when I disabled it.

I finally took the time and finished it yesterday night. An amazing game on so many levels with my personal favorite feature being the sound (5.1 system here).
Thanks for the link to the deciphered writings (back some pages) - though I had found the translation in-game, I hardly had the time to decipher the rest. Is there also some sort of resource for the
activated back-story logs
, that you receive? I simply haven't got the time for
another play through
.
As for naming favorite moments, mine is in the
main engine room after you fire up that thing -- finally an engine room of a space ship that makes you believe you're standing next to a machine containing millions of horse power, capable of moving such a vessel.
(Plus several cool moments more ;) )

DO NOT READ THIS POST IF YOU HAVEN'T REACHED CHAPTER 7!
How the fuck does one kill that Leviathan in chapter 6? The first part is a piece of cake, but I keep running out of ammo during the second part of the fight.
Are there any good strategies for defeating the bastard while keeping ammo usage efficient? I gave up on trying to fire the pods back at him, there is no indication that it does any damage to him whatsoever. Plus it is no easy task to fetch the last one, aim and fire it back at the mouth before it closes.
My current strategy is to take out the tentacles with the pulse rifle and then get up close to the wall when the mouth opens and blast at the orange thing inside, first with the pulse rifle and then with whatever I got left. The levi does scream in pain frequently when I do this but I run out of ammo before he actually dies. Plus things get quite a bit more difficult when the tentacles grow again.
Any tips would be appreciated.

Shoot it 'til it dies.
At least I think that's what I did. Lots of pistol ammo, and lots of fully charged blasts from the beam-gun.
Then again, I played on normal, so maybe you have ammo concerns that I didn't.

I don't mean to be rude, but I clearly said that I keep running out of ammo before it dies. What am I supposed to kill it with then, if not the pods? Firing blanks until it dies of laughter? :erg:
But about the difficulty, I'm playing on Hard. Though I was playing on Normal before my system went to hell, the replacement chapter 6 savegame I got was played on Hard and I didn't notice it until I was too far into the chapter to bother finding a new one. People do say it takes more ammo to kill the Levi on higher difficulties, so perhaps I'm screwed unless I practice the use of the pods (which isn't going too well after the first dozen or so attempts).

You are supposed to use the pods. Grab the first one and fire it back immediately to take out the second, same for the third with the fourth, and the fifth one can go straight into the maw.

I just stood close to it once I'd killed the tentacles and when it belched out a pod I shot it with my cutter so it bounced back and damaged it, then shot the blob in it's mouth. It would writhe about, then reapeat till either it died or the tentacles regrew.
On hard it used pretty much all my pulse and cutter ammo and I had stocked my inventory full of the stuff (Plus I'd upped the dmg on the cuter as much as I could afford)
