How the fuck does one kill that Leviathan in chapter 6? The first part is a piece of cake, but I keep running out of ammo during the second part of the fight.
Yeah, I'd run out of ammo on hard the first couple of times. Throwing the pods back is best since it conserves ammo. You just need to time it right; follow Fafhrd's directions for defeating it that way.
I got past the heinous thing by alternating between popping off a shot every now and then at its maw and swatting the pods back into its gut.

I just stood close to it once I'd killed the tentacles and when it belched out a pod I shot it with my cutter so it bounced back and damaged it, then shot the blob in it's mouth. It would writhe about, then reapeat till either it died or the tentacles regrew.
On hard it used pretty much all my pulse and cutter ammo and I had stocked my inventory full of the stuff (Plus I'd upped the dmg on the cuter as much as I could afford)
I watched a gameplay video where the player defeated the Levi with ease by just using the pulse rifle and shoot the blob until it dies, died long before the tentacles regrew. I guess I should be angry at the person who created the savegame I'm using for not upgrading the pulse rifle. :p
Anyway, I got hundreds of pulse rounds, 20 or so plasma shots and a fully loaded line gun. That should probably be enough if I only used the cutter and line gun to shoot pods back into the blob, or blow them up before they leave the mouth. Also helps to make most of the pulse rifle shots count (95%+, shouldn't be too hard when I'm standing very close to the Levi).
Thanks for the tips guys, I'll fight the bastard again later tonight and see what happens. Though I find it pretty challenging to hit any specific target with kinesis; the objects block the view and the laser aiming isn't easy to see (for me at least).

Why shoot the blobs back at him?
Thats why you're wasting so much ammo.. use your kinesis module.
I beat the guy on nightmare and hardly used any ammo. It was health packs that I ran out of.

I tried my best to avoid shooting the pods this time around and ended up killing him, though now the only ammo I have left is in a safe (some ripper ammo and flamethrower). It only took one pod to kill him once I emptied the last pulse round.
What pickups are flying around in the food storage room, by the way? The only stuff I've seen and picked up are two health packs. . .

theres all sorts of stuff.. i dont know if its random or not. You can actually walk right up to the thing too.. you're not confined to the area at one end. There's pickups floating all around the room.

I managed to kill the Leviathan with ease. Not my fault that you suck at the game.

I was joking in the last sentence, there is no need to throw childish insults at me.

They are probably random, at the very least the ammo. I guess I should just ask someone to watch me play and point out the pickups, since I'm obviously no good at spotting them myself. Though it is tempting to just go right to chapter 7 and see what good stuff is ahead. ;)

So was I, I just don't like using smilies, they're so blatant. I'll keep that in mind next time, sorry.
I have invested points into the Stasis module based on your previous feedback of my save. Thanks, BTW.

Leviathan isn't very hard as long as your aim is decent.
Start off by shooting up the tentacles' weak points with the plasma cutter. You should be able to take them out before they can sweep you.
At this point the central core opens up and you should be able to get a few free shots on it.
It'll begin shooting explosive pods at you, grab one with kinesis and toss it back. It'll collide with the next pod and explode leaving you a brief window to shoot the core.
Periodically it'll try to tentacle-sweep you again, just jump over them.
If your kinesis isn't up to snuff, just get closer.
Plasma cutter is the best weapon for this fight unless you're good with the contact beam. That thing snuffs bosses like nobody's business.
On a sidenote, I really wish Dead Space was moddable. It just needs an itty bit more work to become Dead Shock and a launch pad for further System Shock related fan projects.
