I just bought dead space on steam. It's scary :(.
Don't make fun of me! I'm a pansy, and evidently less brave than I was when I played AVP2 on marine mode. I blame my current pansyness on being slightly uncomfortable with the 3rd person view, and perhaps more on my ball mouse (the optical one is at school).
Are the different modes of the plasma cutter just good for cutting off different limbs, or what?

Yeah, pretty much. I like to shoot vertical limbs with horizontal spread mode and vice versa.

If line gun had that capability, it'd be hands down the best gun in the whole game.
However the timed mine alternate fire is pretty useful as well.

Man, the first part of cargo bay was intense (in chapter 9 now). I fought a bunch of necromorphs after vacuumifying the cargo room, shot all the radioactive blobs out into space, spent a while looking for the entrance into the Valor; all this in one go. (I didn't find any save points until I was inside the Valor, although I did read in a walkthrough that there is supposed to be one near the tram station)
Looking back at my strategy, it would have been more clever to gather all the green blobs near the floor area before opening the big door, my heart was pounding faster and harder than Isaac's when I got completely lost (didn't know what was up or down) several times while hunting for the hard-to-reach blobs. One time I had to use that medium air can I had thankfully decided to take with me just in case. . .
Anyway, I just met some crazily fast stasis-junkies on board the Valor. As if the game wasn't twisted enough already, I thought I had seen it all when I met the Tallman in the previous chapter.

Yeah, those things really freaked me out, they are absolutely horrible. Though the 'Tallman' dudes are pretty nasty also...

The really tall ones with the tattered labcoats? Those things make the most horrifying noises in the entire game, no lie. Though the ones with the big exploding sacs aren't much better.

Ugh, yeah, the Exploders sound disgusting when they walk around. And so do the remains of the Tallman, chirp and squish around. :eww:
My favorite strategy for dealing with the Tallman is to stasis him, take out the legs with a few line gun shots, equip the force gun, let the stasis wear off and then blast the fuckers with 1 - 2 force shots once they land on the floor. A very profitable strategy for dealing with the first Tallman since he drops a ruby semi-conductor. :p

I loved the tallmen and their eerie trumpeting. Too bad there were only like 10 in the entire game.
The game really needed more enemy variety or at the very least not so many slashers. Didn't help that the slashers made stupid BLEHHHH RAWRRR noises compared to the rest of the enemy cast that had some truly inspired sound effects.
Recently I was shown some concept art for the Dead Space sequel.

Betting dollars to donuts she's a supporting character.

"Eurogamer: What can you tell us about the new female protagonist?
Steve Papoutsis: Her name is Lexine, and when we started working on the story we wanted players to really like her. It's important to us that she comes across in a way that makes gamers enjoy being around her. The actress we have selected for Lexine is a bit of a secret for now and I hope to talk more about our entire cast in the near future."Forget the level 7 military suit. Ain't got nothing on nylon skirts.
