I could accept your opinion if it wasn't riddled with annoying hyperbole, mothra. I mean that as an honest fact. Standard hyperbole I can stand. Yours is... unique. And usually not in a good way.
Also, the reason why the soundtrack is influenced by Goldsmith and Goldenthal should be fairly obvious when you figure out which movie series they both had a hand in composing scores for.
Why would you pick Kenji, anyway? I found Ghost in the Shell's soundtrack to be rather annoying, and what I did listen to of Fate/Stay Night's OST was rather staid.

oh, is it. stupid me, never would have thought that. I just reread it on imdb since I never watched those movies....
kawai is more diverse in his themes, goldenthal and goldsmith redo whole sections of their stuff everytime imo and that's a drag in a videogame where you spend much more hours with it.

don't you have some getting offended to do, mothra, or did you finish your moral outrage quota for today

He's bottling that up for when there's more Modern Warfare 2 news, where there'll be a nice big explosion.

Regarding sound design, I was impressed mainly with the quality of sound effects used. Gunfire is loud and distinct (Halo 3, for example, is terrible in this regard), and little touches like the stomping noise (which has a very convincing ring to it) add to the sense of immersion. System Shock 2, partly because of its engine, was also very effective in this aspect.

Don't forget that for once when you're in zero air, the only things that make noise are touching you directly and even then it's kind of muffled. About time a game averted the Space is Noisy trope.

Ugh, as awesome and realistic as that is, when you have bad eyes things can get rough in vacuum. But thankfully sounds are just muffled, not completely gone, so in many cases the environment is quiet enough that I can hear a muffled roar of necromorphs that spot me.
Anyway, I just met Big McEndboss and I gotta say that thing scares the shit out of me (seeing it kill Kendra was disturbing to watch despite her being a bitch for betraying Isaac). Though it is a bit easy; I managed to get past the former stage of the fight on the first try, and when I had dealt with two targets in the latter stage the game crashed to desktop. :erg:

I agree, the only bit of the sound I didn't like was the background noise. The intercom-speech you can hear from far away doesn't sound like anything else in the game, and it's recycled on most decks.

Should you be able to hear the gun at all? I don't imagine your suit would transmit sound all that well.

I don't know, matter in solid state is the best sound conductor, so as long as Isaac holds the weapon that is being fired it should reach his ears without too much trouble. Plus the soundwaves only have to travel a short distance compared to other sounds like ones made by distant necromorphs or the environment.

I haven't got there yet. I only played my PC pirate version to see how it runs, but I like the console version's controls more. So I'm currently in talks to buy a sealed copy from local classifieds; should have it in a few days.
