Force gun is now fully upgraded and I'm early into ch. 8.
But bloody hell, that thing is one mean bastard when dealing with the wallmen; 2 - 3 force grenades and they are dead, and that was before I placed a node into the last DMG slot in the upgrade grid.
I think me and the force gun will get along just fine. It is devastating against wallmen, tallmen and swarms. I have yet to try the force grenades on other enemies than the wallmen though.
Anyway, next up is the contact beam I guess, can't let those power nodes go to waste. ;)

i played it on hard and had troubles "saving up" on power nodes or buying extra ones in the stores...in ch9 on the spaceship is a room I had to replay a few times since the crazy quick running guys always pinned me in a corner. I never would have had the resources for the force gun since I spent all on cutter, line and ripper, rest for my rig.....
btw I like the ripper most for its effect and sound and if you "rip" the right parts on a necro it's down in 2seconds but it's hard to pull off once swarmed or the 3rd person cam has a crazy angle due to their relative position to me. so it's challenging but very satisfying to use.

I picked up the graphic novel in Forbidden Planet yesterday and it certainly fleshes out the background to the game rather nicely.
Finished chapter 2 (i know, i'm slow) last night and i've managed to get fuel to the engines in Engineering. Still sporting the Line Gun and Plasma Cutter which does the job nicely for me currently.
The game is great and although I realise I'm only a tiny percent into it already its one of the best space horrors I've played in recent memory. Certainly plenty of jumping moments and more than once already I've shouted HOLY SHIT while fumbling for my stasis freeze button at one of those black fuckers rushing at me.
My only concern is the story will fall apart since although its a fairly repetivitve - explorers find artifact, infects people, people kill - its got a rich background and could easily continue into a full blown trilogy.

It seems fairly standard until you get to the end of the final chapter. Holy fuck.

Excellent!
Wait - in a good way I assume?

Yes. While I wasn't thrilled with the somewhat repetitive nature of the chapter's gameplay, the story comes into its own.

My god, the Atrium level on Chapter 4...this is one hell of a beautiful game.

I'm on round 2 on medium difficulty so I can get away with upgrading more "obscure" weapons since everything else is fully upgraded. Speaking of difficulty, does the game automatically scale the difficulty setting to suit the player? Because I was playing on hard but suddenly it changed to medium in ch. 10 or 11.
And yeah, I loved the aesthetics of the ripper, I just wish it was a more worthwhile weapon, as soon as you're dealing with more than 2 bad guys you're in trouble without the help of stasis. And single enemy encounters are rare in later chapters.

Sadly no, you've encountered another documented bug (that will never be patched *sigh*). The work-around is to not use the "Continue last game" option from the main menu, but to manually load your last save.

Ugh, if there is one thing EA need to improve big time it is to give a fuck about their games once they are released. DS is riddled with bugs and nothing will be done about it. I'm especially annoyed by all the save/load inconsistencies (locations of objects don't get saved, items enemies drop seem to be gone if you save and then load, I can go on and on).
