This sounds too good to be true, except for the part where your base is always a school. I guess a lot of scripted story bits take place there.

Koki: Yeah, not like zombies are known to break through barricades in virtually every setting. I mean, they'd be pretty harmless if the entire outbreak could be contained by simply putting them into whichever building's nearby (given they can't escape), no?

Very interesting that this is turn-based. Dunno how that would work. But still, if it's good, and it's polished (ex-Obsidian and ex-Troika devs? Like someone said, this may lead to a game with the best story ever written that no one will experience because it'll be unplayable), I'll get it.

As I recall, a big part of the Romero films was that while it isn't easy, the zombies could be kept at bay with barricades and vigilance. It was, ultimately, humans being dicks to each other that would destroy the defense, like in Dawn of the Dead when the biker gang blows into the mall and ruins everything.

A zombie game done properly, where the goal is to survive shambling hordes rather than just a shooter with zombies? Done by ex-Troika developers? This sounds awesome!

Various bonus game modes would be cool. Turtle base could be like a slightly more invovled tower defence, the free roam mode could be about keeping on top of resources while the amount of zombies out and about gradually increases.
I just think it would be a shame if they create this dynamic game environment and not have a few ways to see what it does.

I wonder how long it will take for EA to sue them over the name. Dead Space vs Dead State there's only two letters difference, both have zombies...
Nice as it would be to have a GTA size city available for wandering and interaction it's a bit impractical if you have one (iirc Annie Mitsoda has a paying job elsewhere) full time developer. It's inevitably, and sensibly, going to be limited in scope.

Necromorphs aren't exactly zombies in the traditional sense, though.

Okay: I, too, would prefer the need to roam and find/secure your own source of shelter.
But other than that: wish I had been wearing diapers when I first followed the link, holy shit this sounds awesome

If this pans out as well as it sounds on 'paper', I am going to be one happy gamer next year. This could be sleeper hit of the year in the PC-exclusive club. (I am assuming that it is, in fact, PC only.)
