 Has anyone else experienced this problem? When I try to climb up rope arrows, they throw me off, I'm tossed back as far as I can be sent to crash and usually die! It's a thrilling ride, but kind of slows down my game to have to keep reloading. I have to approach the rope just right and barely tap on the 'jump' key at just the right spot in order to make it onto the rope.
Note to the Thread Monitor: If this query is in the wrong place, I apologize. Wasn't sure if it belonged here or in technical difficulties thread.

In T2, you can choose 'touch ladder' instead of 'jump ladder'. This option is also helpful for getting on ropes

'Touch ladder; has been the selected option all along. I tried changing it to 'jump' but it made no difference.
It suddenly started up while playing Gort's new fm. I shifted to another fm to see what would happen and the problem was still there! Kind of a bummer :erg: Rope climbing in Thief is one of my fave things to do, next to bjing
Wow! I just looked at the dates on the links posted above -- this has been happening since 1999?? And no fix. *sigh*

Say, does this only happen with rope arrows, or does it happen with fixed ropes, too? Is it the rope itself, or related to the rope arrow?

It sounds like redleaf's problem is more pronounced though, rope arrows shouldn't cause problems every second time or so or require delicate handling. Not sure how we can help, I suppose the most extreme thing you could do is a reinstall...

I don't think I've been on any fixed ropes since I got this bug. I'll trry to find a mission that uses one to try it out.

Love Story 4 has one under a bridge.

I think it's to do with the proximity of the rope to a terrain brush. If you shoot a rope into a beam so the rope hangs right next to the wall, it tends to cause serious bouncy problems. If the rope is hanging in enough space that Garrett can rotate 360 degrees around it without hitting a wall, it seems to be usually problem free.

I've been thrown enormous distances off of ropes occasionally and I find it happens much more frequently in T1/G than in T2. It's just something you learn to live with. Save often in case you have an unexpected problem such as this or SHAS.
