I usually don't enjoy the tech missions as much, but this one was sweet.

Am I the only one who kept thinking of System Shock 2 during the first part of this mission? :)
I've never played System Shock 2, or 1, but was still thinking of it...

Another great effort from John D. :thumb:
I must be getting too good at this game however.
when I got to the door to the room where you disable MOTHER I had not yet found the code....there was one place where I knew I had not gone yet....anyway my 4th guess at the code opened the door... :sly: Damn I'm slick.....

Oh yeah...nothing personal Nightwalker....it was just time for me to leave...and you were in the way. Great job with Mother. SlyFoxx WAS pleased. :thumb:
EDIT...shoulda put spoiler tags around that last part....was late at night and my brain was not functioning properly. :o

Second mission....
I have 100 loot. I explored the corridor where I started and the parallel one across the catwalks; I walked around both the small hub and the large hub; I walked around the catwalks in the power core (ghosting behind the sisters); I explored the mall, dodging around the combots.
I have the holy icon (the automatic alert was irritating), and I made it out of the grand chapel, or whatever it's called.
I have no idea what to do next. I don't know how to find a pod. I assume I'm going to be given a new objective to destroy Mother, but that hasn't come up yet. I found a couple of locked gear-key doors in the upper (small) hub, but I don't know where the gears are to be found.
What am I supposed to be doing?

@Dafydd...
Climb to the 2nd level of the power core

Look for an area that surrounds the large common area...might be called the main hall....It's where the big combatbots are walking around

On that level there is a stair case that goes up to another level....on that level you will find what you need.

It's in Hundays office....the cog key you will need to get past those two locked doors.
ThiefShock 2: Garrett vs. the Menace of the MoistMechs! :thumb:
I hadn't played the first one, so I fired up part 1 and played it through, then did this one immediately after. I need sleep! :) Anyway, pretty cool missions. Spotted a few bugs, though. Non-clickable entrances that require a code or cog to open can't be moved once you've opened them. Problem with that is they're all in confined spaces. There were at least three times I had to re-load the game, make sure I was standing an extra few feet back, and *then* open the door. Otherwise it got stuck halfway open and I couldn't close and re-open it all the way to get through.
I, too, encountered the crash glitch. For me it happened after I'd left the temple. When I first went in, there was no problem. I killed the priest, got the item I was after, and got out. Then I decided I want to go back in and take out all the others, just for the fun of it. I went back in, killed a guard that was right at the doorway (he'd been looking for me), but then it would crash, every time. It seemed like I just couldn't go back into that area without it crashing. If I ran *out* of the room, all was well, but moving towards that area caused the crash, so I just had to leave. I also had the crash happen later, while swimming, but realized I'd swum *under* that area, and the proximity was causing it.
I also noticed that a bunch of the books and scrolls had problems. Entire sections of text were missing, and made it look like there were missing pages, or that they were out of order. Dunno what caused that.
One thing that *really* confused me, and makes me think these two missions were originally supposed to be one big one, was the dive helmut. When you pick up the dive helmut in the first mission (Deep Trouble 1), it adds and completes a new objective, followed by the comment that you should hold onto it, because it might come in handy later. Well, that was a great idea, but unfortunately it vanishes, along with all your other gear, when you begin the DT2, even though it picks up from that same place. It was in DT2 that the helmet was needed, or at least would have been extremely handy, but none were available. I remember swimming down to a dead guy on the bottom and trying to click on him, hoping it would give me his helmut, but that didn't work. After drowing half a dozen times I went back in and finished the mission from inside. Turns out you don't *have* to go outside, but it would have been fun to explore and drop a few depth charges. :)
Oh, speaking of which, take my advice. Don't use a depth charge on the toilets. Underwater they take time to detonate, and you're safe. Drop one in the toilet and it blows instantly. Dang. :)
Anyway, it was still a pretty cool mission, and I had a lot of fun with it. Definitely worth playing both parts back-to-back, so I'd highly recommend going and downloading part 1 first. I think the tech level was a bit too high for the mechanists (computers were a bit much, even for them), but what the heck, it was a cool alternative.
Oh, almost forgot, the opening credits go by way too fast to read. Need a scrolling version, or a (cont) option after each page. I had to pause the game and go back into the zip so I could read the text file.
Great mission. Lots of fun playing this one. :)

I never encountered any problems with the texts in this mission. They all seemed to be in order and made sense. That sounds a bit weird. Perhaps there's something wrong with your download??
The code door in the first mission will reclose if it gets stuck on you. Just hit one of the number buttons and start over. There are two cog doors in the second mission. Presumably, if you open one and realize you were standing to close, you would know enough to stand back from the second one to prevent it happening again. They both open into the same room so it shouldn't present a problem for most players.
I don't know about the dive helmet. I'll ask John D. about it. :)
Nightwalker on 26/10/2004 at 16:55
I asked John about the helmet. This is his answer:
Quote:
As for the helmet in part 1, at the time Rob Hicks was posting about Dromed Deluxe 2 in which he said it would have a frobbable dive helmet that you could use underwater. I put the helmet in pt 1 with the anticipation that I would be using the DEDX2 item in the next mission-however Rob has apparently run into some RL issues that has prevented him from finishing that project and I wasnt sure how to build one myself, so I ended up just giving a regular breath potion for pt 2. Sorry about that. :(

Text probs:
I encountered only one minor glitch with the book in the Commander's office. But I'm not quite sure if there are pages missing or in the wrong order. Still, it does not seriously affect the message to be told and therefore it didn't reduce the fun
john9818a on 26/10/2004 at 18:25
I finished with 100 short of total loot. There is a room with a switch, and when frobbed
a rectangular thing appears and rotates. Does this switch do anything other than make the thing appear?
The architecture was really great. I like the angular layout and design. I tried to rescue the
two Dew Drops for Gloria Creep, but was unable to frob them.
:p
One thing that confused me was this:
After I disabled Mother the door to the core opened. I went in and ran around the whole thing, but didn't find what to do in there.
