Also griefing might get popular in this game. Not sure how it works per se, but I have the stones that let me become a "black phantom", allowing me to invade another players game. If I can successfully slay them, I am rewarded with my physical form. I just dont have the heart to do that to someone else though. And man am I going to be pissed if someone ever does that to me.
From what I understand, you can only invade games being played by people on your friends list. That should all but nix any potential random griefing. Unless, of course, you just really hate your friends.

I'm reading the manual about the multiplayer aspects and it's pretty damn cool. Let me try and explain it:
You can invade a living players game. You cant invade a souls game. You can invade a game in more than one way. You can invade as a blue phantom, in which case living players can see your soul in their realm. They can then grant you access to their world, and you can play coop. You can have up to two phantoms play along with you.
You can invade a living players realm as a black phantom, in which case your objective is to kill the player. If you die due to the environment, you lose a soul level. If the player banishes you with a spell or just defeats you, you are returned to your realm with no penalty. If you defeat the player, you are resurrected in body form. Living players can summon two blue phantoms to help fight you off.
Red souls are like blue souls, but for duels. That means you use a red eye stone and you become a visible red soul in other peoples games. They can summon you if they wish. You wager a certain number of souls and the person who dies loses those souls (and thus soul levels), the person who wins gains the souls.
Now that is a fucking cool, different approach to mp/pvp/etc.
So fitting. Love this game.

So guys, PSNs? :)
Mine is Ziaeon.

Mungrul.
But please don't invade me. I already feel violated by the game. Being violated by another player may cause tearing.
DAMN YOU MANEATER TWINS!
Oh, and my single best tip for this game:
Upon beating a Major Demon, immediately return to the Nexus using the handy archstone provided, and spend every last one of your souls.
Do not be tempted to explore, no matter how enticing the next section looks.
You will die, and chances are, your body will end up somewhere nigh on impossible to reach again, so you will lose all the souls you earned beating that last big bad.
It happened to me after beating Armor Spider :(
Mr.Duck on 12/10/2009 at 21:32
Take that you fucking Armor Spider!!!
Which wasn't really hard, but I wasn't using proper strategy the first 3 times....my bad.
Eeeeep....can't wait to dig deeper into this dungeon.
Also, bit a nip of every level to get a taste, man, that tower with the Mindflayer/Cthulhu bastards going to be one freaky sexy bitch of a level to play.
Great times.

That's where they start chucking Black Phantoms at you, which is a bit misleading actually, as they're shiny and red. And utter bastards too.
But those mindflayer things, as freaky as they are, don't hold a candle to the things you encounter in the swamp as far as freak-out-factor goes.
Not pleasant.
Also, this is originally a Japanese game, right? I'm only saying, as it really doesn't feel Japanese. It doesn't have any of the usual things I'd associate with Japanese games. Any of you other guys playing it understand what I mean?

I felt the same way about Dead Rising. The only time it felt "Japanese" was during a few of the cutscenes, one example being Frank's drawn-out "................. medicine, huh." I've never seen that kind of "dramatic pause" in a Western game, whereas (to use another example) MGS has loads of 'em.

I had a look at some gameplay videos and the excitement is justified, it looks utterly fantastic in terms of slashing/looting/locations and finding secret passages. Does anybody know if it's a PS3 exclusive-exclusive, meaning it will not ever, ever, ever get out on any other platform or even get a pc port ?

Mothra, it's an Atlus game. Good luck seeing any of their games on anything other than a Sony system.

From Software is the developer (and they like the Xbox platform too), Atlus is only the North American distributor/publisher. The reason why this title is PS3 exclusive is because in Japan/Asia (i.e. the game's target market) the game is published by Sony Computer Entertainment. So it will highly likely remain PS3 exclusive.
However it's worth noting that From Software's recent Ninja Blade is being ported to PC and 360 original was published by Microsoft Game Studios. So who knows what the future holds?
Atlus Japan as a developer though favour Sony and Nintendo platforms, that is very true. Atlus USA however is publishing the 360 XBLA port of Zeno Clash.
