US import arrived today and I'm loving the game so far.
Couldn't resist picking the thief from the starting character list and surprised myself by not dying horribly every five seconds or so, particularly with my amount of controller experience. As soon as I realized that I was doing pretty decently, though, the game of course made me pay for such insolence and killed me with my 3000 hard-earned souls, which I shed emo tears for after miserably failing the recovery mission.
In the end I managed to kill the first boss without too much trouble, but lost my newly gained body approximately two minutes later when that goddamn dragon decided it didn't have anything better to do than harrass me personally.

You should never die(lose your body) except in Nexus, it reduced your Tendency and moves it toward black by 30% if memory serves right. (Extreme black/white tendency opens up areas in the levels, black is easy to get, white is a PITA). So, when you kill a boss demon, throw yourselves off the stairs in the nexus(neutral area) right after and always adventure in soul form(you hit harder in this form too). Also when you're in soul form you can never get invader by black phantoms(other players) which is probably what you want to avoid when you first explore the areas.

How does the saving system work? Can I save whenever I want?
Mr.Duck on 4/11/2009 at 22:59
Nope.
100% Autosave.
And you only get the -one- saveslot for your character, so there's never turning back from a bad decision, w00w000!!!

How far away are the saving points then?
Malf on 5/11/2009 at 09:24
You can save anywhere you like, and it will save the state of that level for you, but only if you quit at the same time. You can't create a save point and then load it if things go pear-shaped.
When you load that profile, you will be back in the level you left, and usually at the same spot you saved in. But as soon as you load the game, your save point disappears and your profile is updated.
So don't view it as a traditional save at all, more an irrevocable record of your progress.

I don't know much about this game beyond the fact that it is not a game for those worried about save point systems.

I don't know much about this game except that the positioning of the apostrophe confuses me.
Surely, if there are multiple demons the apostrophe should be after the 's':
Demons' Souls.
If there's only one Demon, it should be:
Demon's Soul
Unless of course, the game is about a man called Demon who has multiple souls, in which case Demon's Souls is correct. But I doubt this.
Or can singular Demons have multiple souls? It's all very confusing.

According to this game yes. Yes they can. Souls are the gold coins and exp points of this game.

Yes, albeit unusual, the name explains exactly what it means. Demons harvest souls, and you, in turn, harvest these souls from the demons. Different demons reward you with different amount of souls.
