I still remember Forsaken to this day because the ads of it in the magazines were of a almost naked woman. "Wait, the game is about a ship?" I might of bought it then. I think this is the 2nd or 3rd time ever that I learn of Forsaken's gameplay.

It's just like many of these music video's... They all rely on half-naked women to make their music seem better! :p

So I guess you decided to force a moderator to delete that oversized image?
sorry about that

it took me about an HOUR of configuration to get it to "feel" right, but i finally got it pretty damn close to descent 1. it took a ridiculous amount of tweaking.
???
I can only think of two options here: Mouse look and gfx quality. What's so much to tweak here?

it appears there is a bug in d2x-xl.exe that when "linear joystick sensitivity scaling" is enabled, the Z-axis (twist axis) sensitivity slider doesn't have any actual affect on the joystick's sensitivity. which sucks because by default it was too sensitive for me.
It would have been a good idea to report this bug on the Descent BB, where the D2X-XL area is my 'lair'. ;)
You can now desync joystick axis handling in D2X-XL, so you can set each axis' sensitivity and deadzone separately. Maybe you want to try that. Actually, non-linear joystick sens scaling is better for fine tuning the impact of axis movement on the ship.
sluggs,
I had owned Forsaken, but thought it sucked. Enemies just appearing from nowhere, boss insanely hard to beat ... too arcadish for my taste. But to each his own. :)
Shadowcat,
I wish I could reproduce the D1 bugs on my machines (I have three at my disposal: WinXP pro, WinXP home, and Linux), but they never ever occurred on any of them. Dang. If they did, fixing them would be a matter of a few hours at most. Anyway, D2X-XL is about D2 mainly, and here about multiplayer. If you want to play D1, you may want to look for the DXX Rebirth project. ;)
Here some eye candy for everybody (Click on the thumbnails for larger images): :)

i don't use mouse, i use joystick... so it was the joystick that took the tweaking.
i was considering filing a bug report, but there were already so many, i doubt anybody would even notice.
desyncing the axis handling is the first thing i did. it's in those sliders that the twist axis slider doesn't work. maybe it's just specific to my joystick though?
i tried messing with the non-linear scaling, but whenever it was enabled, it just felt "
wrong"... i can't explain it, but it made it feel like there were deadzones, which i can't stand
anyway. i played some GREAT D2 last night, up to level 4 in single player. this game is HARD. i had no idea how good the AI is (in comparison to d1). i am getting my arse kicked on Ace difficulty on the first few levels, when i would normally be able to fly through the first 5 levels on d1 without even dying
heh

This is the silliest thing I've read in a long time, sorry. Really don't mean to insult you, but I had to say that. ;)
If you look at the bug reports, and look at the version history, you will notice that I fix most bugs within a day, some within a week and only very few take longer (real low priority or not reproducable by me).
I will check the joystick axis problem.
Non-linear joystick sens decreases sens close to the center point, and makes it grow exponentially with larger deflection (proper word?) of the stick. Actually this should increase aiming precision.

@ karx11erx
I hate to say this, but those graphics look awfull! :laff: Not what i'd call "Eye Candy" Now if you had the graphics of Forsaken in Descent 2, i might give it a try again.
I guess it's not all about pretty graphics tho', is it? Mind you, if HL2 had crap graphics, i don't think it would have done so well!

Oh, those are much nicer! Well done sir. :thumb:
