That depends on what was set when the level was created.

Just changing it.
Brilliant, thank you!
I'm curious to have a look at the aforementioned Glass House as well, but haven't been able to find out where it hides. I couldn't see it anywhere in your level pages, and searching for it only garnered me a broken link in the German Descent forums :/ I fear I may be missing something distressingly obvious, but do you happen to know where I could find it?

It's in the multiplayer level section.

Aha. Thank you! Distressing obvious indeed... sigh.
And for those who were interested in getting the game, I've no idea whether this is available still, but it would certainly be the package to get should you spot it!

industry (sorry :)),
I found no problems with my joysticks and twist. Thrust sensitivity got halved though (historical code), I removed that.

hmm, must be something specific to my hardware then. it's no biggety since i fixed the problem by overcalibrating. thank you for looking though!

Why do all the models look like they're being rendered fullbright?
Single or multiplayer?
In singleplayer, this is a level property (object brightness depends on the position in the level, and is precalculated when the level is created).
In multiplayer, this is a toggleable option and serves to increase player visibility.

sorry about the graverobbing.
Does anybody have a clue as to how to play multiplayer with this game using TCP?
The only options the sourceport gives me are IPX (good luck on vista) and UDP. which is nearly as archaic. I"m using Hamachi and I dont think it uses UDP at all. Wikipedia says DXX and D2X rebirth support TCP protocol but it doesn't seem to work.
I can't play multiplayer at all.

I'm pretty certain any multiplayer game that actually works relies on UDP to share the bulk of the game data between clients.
Anyway, are you filtering UDP somewhere? I can't imagine any VPN software would have an issue with handling UDP unless it's completely incompatible with any multiplayer gaming.

well I've got the firewall allowing Descent through, and Hamachi is working fine in that regards, I've been using it to play everything from zdoom to UT2004. Its kind of magical really. we've had no problems at all.. But neither one of us can see each other inside descent. creating a UDP/IP game wont show up on the other computer.
I thought IPX would work if we just both installed the protocol. his in an XP machine so it was easy, with vista I had to try a bunch of different things. I finally got it installed. but the game still says there's no driver loaded when I try to use IPX.
