A "Descent" game without a long campaign that can be played co-op isn't really a Descent game. I can't imagine anyone giving a shit about a competitive multiplayer Descent.

Competitive Descent was pretty fun back in the day. Especially when you could shoot all the lights out in D2 and then hide in a recessed niche in the ceiling while your gormless foe zoomed around below with his afterburners hot.
Anyway, the KS page has a tick next to 'co-op', but if that's for an SP 'mini-campaign' only, perhaps not the best way to do it.

Descent 3 was pretty fantastic as well.
Actually, I've got a joystick sitting around. If anyone wants to get online and shoot each other down I'm game.

Descent has been on my years long Backlog for a long time. I played it plenty when I was younger but I never really finished it. So I've been playing it with Rebirth on my laptop. I finished Descent 1 about a week ago and I'm currently on the 3rd stage of Descent 2. The campaigns are LONG in the vein of 90s computer games, and as such marathon sessions aren't really fun after awhile. I had to take several breaks throughout the weeks it took me to beat it, but I'm glad I did it. Descent 2 feels a lot less iconic to me, but then again I never played it much as a kid. Still, I like the improvements to the gameplay.
My verdict. Without the long campaign and coop. Why bother? I concur, it isn't really descent without that.

Pffft, all these modern fancy-looking Descent games and their dumbed down non-abstract art for the masses. I think I'll wait for (

Why didn't that guy ever muster up the gumption to come back with a sock puppet?
Those were fun times.

True, none of them will feature art 9000. I'll stick to the regular cosmic horror though, thank you very much.

One of the stand outs from the 90s was Descent, so it's nice to see a fresh coat of paint being given to the franchise. I look forward to seeing this.
