Did you really get hitched Nicky? Congrats :thumb:
I have to admit companionship is a hell of a good antiseptic for the soul.
At the end of Candide, after the titular hero had gotten his fill of how rotten the world out there really is -- completely debunking his teacher Pangloss's idea that we're in the best of all worlds & reaffirming Martin the Manichean taking evil for granted so nonchalantly it drove Candide mad, until the world took Martin's side -- he came back home to garden and chase a woman literally named "tail" in the end... That ending always struck me as about the only real solution with any credibility, though I wouldn't call the woman tail, or anyway I'd be tail for her too...
Doesn't stop me from being a human rights lawyer though...
I'm a masochist for trying anyway, I guess.

Thanks! I spent almost 3 weeks on a Greek island, ostensibly to fan the local economy but somehow ended up playing Backgammon in streetside cafés and watching the world go by...
On topic: The news tend to make one feel helpless and depressed when you look at them this way. But I cannot stand this doom and glooming either. Unfortunately we can't all become human rights lawyers (awesome that you are!), but just being decent human beings, as I know you all are, helps a lot. For oneself and the rest of the world. But mainly for oneself. And now... Greek kittens!

Kolya actually found someone who shares his distressing taste in music? Well I'll be damned. Congrats.

Congrats Kolya!
I couldn't agree more about being decent. The thing I've found also is that the news affects people's minds by amplifying the perception of low probability events, so we all walk around thinking that we're in danger of terrorist attacks, muggings, murder etc.. far more than we actually are. If, instead of looking to the news, you look around you for evidence of how your part of the world is, I'd say that unless you actually are in a hotspot for bad shit (which I'd argue is low probability), then it turns out most people are actually ok - we just give undue attention to the terrible shit because evolution honed our brain to keep our eyes peeled for shit which could kill us.

Kids are being killed because of a deep belief in a fucking fairy tale about an all powerful being in the sky. What a wonderful and highly-intelligent race humans are.
... a barrage of giant fucking asteroids cannot hit this ridiculous rock fast enough.

Congratulations Harvester! Maybe it's contagious this marrying thing. :)
We married on 23rd May, the day all great revolutionaries died. And also the day I first kissed my wife 4 years ago.
