I used to, but then it occurred to me that I've never met an American I didn't like. That said, I only meet the ones which leave the country.
Ironically, I've met plenty I wish would leave the country.

Yeah it's funny, most Americans I've met I get on with (except the jerks I met in Taiwan).
Canadians though, always seem to be awesome.

I'll agree with that. Some the nicest, most considerate, and most polite people I've ever met.

There's an increasingly large disconnect between the events of the news and the events of our individual lives. I mean, the vaaaast majority of news items do not change our daily lives.I mean, the surveillance programs happened and the sun still came up. Anybody with half a brain SHOULD know that was happening in some form. Come on, GOOGLE KNOWS what you type into their search bar. Facebook and Twitter KNOW what you post. When you click "I accept terms and conditions" you open yourself up to anything. To me personally, PRISM and Snowden and all the rest are toward the bottom of my priority list. What's more concerning to me is that the Obama administration is putting out rhetorical fires instead of governing for weeks now, despite what they do to convince us otherwise, and that a bill that both sides want (and need) passed takes a herculean effort to do so in Congress.

Short term, myopic "I'm ok right
now" arguments like that, when held
en masse by a lot of people, are what cause liberties to be eroded over time. You have kids? Nephews or nieces? Good friends with kids? Do you care about other people in general? Just because you aren't affected right now, doesn't mean these things don't matter. Caring needs to extend to all people, including those who don't exist yet.
You are currently more likely to be
(http://www.ijreview.com/2013/06/58736-study-toddlers-kill-more-americans-than-terrorists-in-2013/) shot by a toddler right now than killed by a terrorist, but the amount of focus being directed towards the war on terror (pffffft - positive feedback as a
cure!? Good going The West!) is still enough that civil liberty erosion is being justified by fear-mongering.
Sure, it hasn't affected you, but
(http://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/1g4nm0/real_world_fallout_of_prism_german_girl_turned/) THIS is a little sinister. Sure, she actually was in the wrong, but we all know that no government can be trusted with that level of surveillance, least of all the US.

You know CCC, if you weren't so condescending (people are stupid, wake up!, I'm in the know!) then people might actually listen to some of the things you say.
