You all better get used to it, because ISA is using the Unreal engine for Thief 3 and Deus Ex 2.
It's funny how things workout, because today I just received an email back from Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic

Actually, I think this is swell. It's the new Unreal 2 engine, which seems to be simply amazing from everything I've seen and heard about it so far. Unfortunately this will certainly mean another upgrade, and I'll have to buy a GeForce 3. But DX2 is worth it :D
I do hope that Unreal 2 improves on its predecessor in the areas where the Dark Engine was better than Unreal, like sound. Hopefully the AI will be much better too.

Trust me, I'm sure they'll improve all of these qualities with a nice implementation of features ;)

I'm not supprised at all. It's what they already know (the coding that is), and the capabilities of U2 are amazing. I'm glad they chose it (actually, I would have prefered MAX-FX, but oh well).
I'm not sure how I feel about Thief 3 using U2. Unreal just doesn't seem right for the Thief enviroment. Something with the light/darkness and shadowing. And they'll have to do some serious work on the sound to get it up to the caliber of the Dark engine. The other part of me though holds faith that they'll do a great job, and won't settle for anything less then perfection.

Actually, the Unreal engine should work wonders with Thief III. I find Unreal has some of the best lighting around. Which would work perfect in Thief's enviorment.
Also, I don't know if an upgrade is that needed. Unreal games work fine on low-end computers just fine. But, if you want to get the most out of it's graphics, an upgrade is probably needed.

They should have used the build engine. :(

The min specs for Unreal 2 are a 450Mhz P2/3 with a GeForce graphics card, I'd up that by about a 100Mhz for Thief 3.

I feel confident that ISA(or whatever they're called now) will do justice to the games. DX2 will rock. After the patches the DX1 engine is flawless. I am a little worried about my machines performance though. It's funny, it seems that only a few gamers have the hardware to run the new engines perfectly.

The same engine used to make Duke Nukem 3D and Blood? Hmmm..... wonder what that would look like?
