Deus Ex 2 was alot more accessible than Deus Ex 1, which in some ways wasn't a bad thing, and it made it alot easier to get straight into the game. I did enjoy Deus Ex 1 and 2, and am looking forward to Deus Ex 3, which would nice if it was an mixture of both. I will admit however, that the new inventory system was atrocious, and although the textures were low quality, they did lead to low loading times (unless someone can set me straight and say that the low textures had no good points).
As for SS2, I found that its upgrade method meant alot more customiseability; weapons, skills, etc. Been along time since I've played either SS2 or Deus Ex1, so I'm going off memory here (which is very poor).
I also hope Deus Ex 3 re-adds multiplayer... [SPOILER]theres all those quotes from the team in the secret room talking about Deus Ex 1 multiplayer, and how fun it was, yet they didn't bother adding it into the sequel.[/SPOILER] And proper multiplayer this time too, not some cobbled together attempt (although it was fun to play).

lets hope they create this one with pc gamers in mind.

Well, now that Warren is [allegedly] no longer with Ion, I'm assuming that he no longer has the rights to Deus Ex. Would I be correct in saying Eidos owns the rights, or no? If not Eidos, then I think they'd be Ion's; still out of Warren's reach, unless they handed them over to him.
It would be such an atrosity if DX1 was the only great game to come out of the series. If Warren isn't behind DX3 (if it gets made), I'm not terribly optimistic.

You would be correct. We will have to wait and see what Eidos does with the Deus Ex series.

"You would be correct. We will have to wait and see what Eidos does with the Deus Ex series."
Maybe I lost my mind. (Well, I know I lost my mind. Damned laundromat...) But I thought I heard a rumor that a new Deus Ex game was being made for the PS2. However, this wouldn't be a full-fledged DX game, but just an action game set in the DX "universe." I forget where I read this rumor, but it would have to either be GameSpot or IGN. They're the only two game sites I bother to read (besides this, I guess).
Either way, sounds a bit lilke BS to me.

that PS2 exclusive game that they're supposedly planning is called Deus Ex: Clan Wars. It's being developed by Crystal Dynamics (who made the Gex series of games.. about a gecko. and they also made the first Legacy of Kain game, Blood Omen: the Legacy of Kain, which wasn't exactly terrible.. just not thebestgameever). apparently Warren Spector was producing the game, or consulting with Crystal D about the game design. mind you, this is all information gleaned from the Eidos corporate reports from about half a year ago. it was supposed to be officially announced at E3 this year, but since that didn't happen i have a feeling it got canned the way most game prototypes do. and good riddance. Clan Wars?? what the hell?! [edit]what clans were there? it smacks of a cash-in due to the fact that DX:IW had nary a multiplayer option, even though Ion Storm were aware of the fact that people (including much of the DX dev team) loved Deus Ex multiplayer. personally, i think that Eidos probably were going to make some money from Sony by keeping Clan Wars a PS2 exclusive, and some more money from the hardcore DX fans who loved DXMP by creating a new multiplayer-focussed Deus Ex game. as i said. smacks of a cash-in.
[edit] and yeah, Eidos do own the Deus Ex trademark and copyright. hence the fact that Crystal Dynamics were developing the multiplayer game, and not Ion Storm. although i have a feeling that Ion Storm were trying to take risks and create a game they wanted to play while at the same time getting their franchises popular among both PC and console gamers. sadly, it didn't seem to work out, since DX:IW didn't sell as well as Eidos had hoped. thus, Ion Storm's restructuring. the bottom line is, after all, the bottom line.
i hope i made sense there.

Actually, the first Legacy of Kain game, Blood Omen, was developed by Silicon Knights, not Crystal Dynamics. CD retains the rights for the Legacy of Kain series now only after it tried to steal it from Silicon Knights, getting sued by said Developers, and buying out the rights in the settlement.

With DX:IW, Deus Ex died. Spector with all his talk of choices being "tyranical" and how games shouldnt be made for "MIT grads" (as if Deus Ex 1 required an MIT degree to understand..) is dead to me too. I am just happy they can't FUBAR System Shock.

aye, sorry about that. i got confused last night. i know i read up on the net what capacity Crystal D were involved in making the first Kain game, but i forgot. were they just producing or what? (who's too lazy to look this up right now? i am!)
and you never know, Spector is very influential in the games industry and has a whole host of fanboys. and on top of that, in the eyes of the publishers he's got a solid track record, even including DX:IW (it didn't set Eidos at a loss. it just wasn't as successful as they were aiming for). a few mistakes (including DX:IW) won't necessarily mar his reputation. you never know, he might be able to secure funding and somehow get ahold of the Shock license (i'm just speculating here). but he's an original guy with original ideas. hopefully he'll try something new. i'm not impressed with the idea of a "sandbox" being a total game. just setting the player in a responsive world and expecting said player to make his/her own fun just seems.. boring. if i wanted to play SimCity or The Sims, i'd do it. i wouldn't expect an FPS to be my own Sim game. and that's what he seemed to be pushing for. sure, you need to innovate and take risks, but just ignoring the desires of fans and expecting to sell massive amounts of games when you do away with or don't even respond at all to their wants-- that's not smart decision making. a long time ago, when corresponding with Sheldon Pacotti, i got a sense that his desire to write a solidly integrated story was sometimes at odds with Harvey and Warren's overriding desire for simplified sandbox gameplay. and (on a tangent here) that's funny, because remember when Warren Spector originally had an idea for a gigantic gamed based on all the known modern-day conspiracy theories that also had gameplay mechanics that allowed the player to feel like a superhuman protagonist who could actually affect the outcome of the game and play it his/her own way by making his/her own choices? yeah, that doesn't seem very much like DX:IW. no matter what they say, the atmosphere of the game seems too alien, too simple, too generic compared to the original game. and yet in some ways it's still a step forward. two steps forward, one step back.
last thing: quality control and testing was all bollocks. end rant.
sorry, i just never really got that off my chest after playing DX:IW. apologies.

Why is there so much Anti-Shock sentiment on the Deus Ex Board? It seems that whenever I look at a DX topic, someone always tries to give SS/SS2 a beating.
