Ive adjusted the brightness all the way and its still way too dark. The graphics are much better in 3dfx glide so I dont want to change that if I dont have to.I have a Nvidia 32mb GeForce 2 MX that should do the trick for this game. Has anyone else had this problem before?

Try adjusting the settings in Windows instead -- that might do the trick. If not, you may want to manually adjust the brightness on your monitor (this actually is what I finally had to do).

Hold on... You have an NVidia Geforce MX and you're running in 3DFX Glide mode?!? I think not. Are you sure you're not running in D3D or OpenGL? If so, try swapping between those modes to see what difference that makes. You can do so with the latest patch if you have not got it.

Deus Ex supports 3Dfx Glide and Direct 3d only so I tried both and the graphics are much better with the glide.I havent downloaded the 30 something MB patch from eidos yet but I will try that as well as adjusting the monitor. I had the same problem with QuakeII. It looks much better in OpenGL but you couldnt get it bright enough. Ill try both suggestions and thanks for the help guys!

Deus Ex supports Open GL with the new single player patch ( (
http://www.fileplanet.com/index.asp?search=deus+ex&submit.x=23&submit.y=4&file=56685) http://www.fileplanet.com/index.asp?search=deus+ex&submit.x=23&submit.y=4&file=56685 ). The reason I was asking about Glide is that NVidia cards do not run in 3DFX Glide mode, only 3DFX cards (like the Voodoo) run in Glide mode. NVidia cards can run in OpenGL which this patch supports.
Anyway, you don't need to get the 30MB patch unless you are planning to play multiplayer anytime soon - the 30 meg patch is the multiplayer patch. In fact, if you are just interested in the single player game then you should stick to the
latest single player patch which is available from many places including (
http://www.fileplanet.com) www.fileplanet.com (see link above). It's much smaller than the multiplayer patch. You'll probably notice a big difference in in-game performance with your card as well after installing this.
Some other things to try. Which version of DirectX do you have (7.1 or 8.0 - or the new 8.1 beta)? Because the 6.50 Detonator 3 drivers for the Geforce range of cards are best for DX7.1 (available from (
http://www.nvidia.com)) www.nvidia.com) and the 7.x or above (10.80 are the best apparently) unofficial Detonator 3 drivers (available from (
http://www.reactorcritical.com)) www.reactorcritical.com) are best for DX8.0.
Hopefully some of these things may help with your problem as well as generally improve performance in Deus Ex :D

Hello davpod. I think I will try the single player patch first. I have DX 8.0 the latest version.I also went to visiontek and downloaded the latest drivers in the detonator 3 section. Its the 7.58 drivers for my video card. Anyway, I think I will try that patch first because most of my games do run better in Open GL.Thanks again!

Yes, you -can- have Glide on cards which support only D3d and/or OpenGL. You must find and download what is known as a "Glide Wrapper", which is an emulator that turns 3dfx instructions into those which your card can understand. These were only created for things which require Glide, as they generally have poor to moderate performance and moderate image quality { with special instruction sets missing }. They mostly surround the UltraHLE emulator { Nintendo 64 } scene, where the source code has been "destroyed" and only Glide is supported. I couldn't get any of them to work well at all for Unreal engine games, but older Glide games and UltraHLE work fine with some tweaking. If you're into it, search Google for "Glide Wrapper", but don't be surprized when none of them work.

Cheers for that Virulence, I wasn't aware of the "glide wrapper". <IMG SRC="thumb.gif" border="0">

Thumbs up to Virulence! I didnt know about "glide wrapper" either but I shall check it out.
