Playing the jealousy angle is how you win the conversation battle with Darrow.
Speaking of which, did anybody else find it ridiculous that Darrow is so weak minded that Jensen can talk him out of his plan after a minute of conversation? It's one thing to talk your way into the police station where you previously worked as a cop. But talking the world's biggest scientist/meglomaniac out of his plan?
That whole last level was just such a letdown. Deus Ex managed to keep building right to the end. Human Revolution built up to the Namir battle but then fell on its face. It's great that they tried to include a homage to the sub base/System Shock, but the end game was just poorly done.

Not necessarily, I won it by showing him how wrong it was to kill all those people to fix his mistakes. I'm pretty sure I didn't use the "jealousy" angle.

Agreed, regardless of whether the jealousy angle was the only way to do it. Awful finale all around to an otherwise great game (boss battles aside).

One of the reasons I have huge faith in the new game is just how open the HR devs were regarding their failures in the Director's Cut commentary. They really do seem to understand what they did wrong there.

Did people really hate the last battle that much? To me it was tolerable, but the "push this button to get this ending" part was so fourth-wall shattering.

I really expected something more from "Hyron Project" than a mere Turret Pod that can be hacked very easily, that bothered me more than the "press this button for Ending #3". It was obvious since the 2nd trip to Hengsha that this Hyron project was a big thing, a major player in the endgame. Boy, what a disappointment. I was so disappointed that I felt that "choose your ending on the screen before you" fit perfectly.

Yes, I hated the last battle. Not just because the Hyron turned out to be a dud. It was also just so easy. Easy to the point of stupid. Like they had created it the day before the game went gold and had never playtested it.

Yep, literally just one hack one thing and hide for a while then run up and hit whatshername twice and you're done. It's so easy it almost feels like a bug.
But yes, the button ending and the zombies and Darrow were also all awful. The combination of all of that actually put me off from replaying the game until well after the DC came out.

I felt like the scene 2/3 of the way through the game where you first meet what's-her-name from the ending and get set upon by a mob of enemies was much more of a challenge and had more of an impact than the actual final battle did.
Edit: Just read froghawk's reply. For the love of god does anyone know her name.

That fight is brutal if you try to take it straight on at max difficulty.

...No idea. I could look it up, I suppose.
