Hi
DX freezes (I can only reboot the PC!) from time to time
even if I turn the sound setings to the minimal values the problem still occurs from time to time
I have the same problem on two machines:
-Win2K + Athlon 700+ Gforce3 + DX8 + nvdia 12.41+sblive
-wIn98 + Athlon 800+ GeforceDDR + DX8 + nvida 12.41+sblive
In both machines I installed the latest 4in1 VIA drivers
Even with the sound settings to the minimal the system can freeze
So is there something else to check ?
thanks

Hi Cyril_3D,
As Deusex uses the unreal engine it doesn't really like direct3d based cards like Nvidia.
The best thing you can do is to download the patch from (
http://www.planetdeusex.com/dx1/files/patches/) http://www.planetdeusex.com/dx1/files/patches/
or (worked beter for me) the beta.dll file. copy this file into the deusex\system folder and it should give a HUGE improvement.
Furthermore there is an excellent tweaking guide. You can find it here: (
http://www.planetdeusex.com/dx1/help/hardware/) http://www.planetdeusex.com/dx1/help/hardware/
Especially the advanced page is of interest to you as it explains how to tweak the graphics.
Also try posting this message in the tech-help forum of this site.
Oh, and welcome to TTLG! :D
Best of luck,
Whisky

Get the patch and use OpenGL
Takes sometime to get it working right, but it's fast (faster than d3d) and it's less buggy.

i have a similar problem with glide (an old, reference-board voodoo2) under win2k. sometimes i have to reboot, other times i don't. it's a shame, really. nothing's worse than completing a fairly difficult part and having the game freeze just before talking to a character you've been looking for ...

Hi
since I couldn't remove the freezing problem with Direct3D (on some GeforceX boards) I switched to OpenGL.
the freezing bug is forgotten here but when I turn on the Level Texture detail to the highest level I have some strange texture bugs:
For example some WEAPONS (pistol, autoamtic riffle I believe) have the additional (thorically) transparent fire polygons on the end of the weapons but here without the texture !!
Generally speaking some texture are missing. they reappear when you lower the detail level but as you know it is very blurry( without speaking about having a Geforce3 to use this low level !!)
any idea please ?
thanks

There might be some settings in your video card software. Go to the OpenGL part, and check every setting except the "Disable support for enhanced CPU instruction sets". I use Deus Ex on an Athlon with a Geforce DDR using OpenGL at these settings, and don't have any problems (well, there's that damn translucent box at the tip of my shotgun, but I'm not the only one).

Hi
I found it : under OpenGL the ST3C texture compression is not activated by default.
you NEED to add in the Deusex.ini file (opengl sectiop) the following line :
UseS3TC=1
and the problem is SOLVED
