Diablo has always been cheesy, so to be honest I don't see why this video is getting so much flak. Yes, the writing is B movie style, but for a fun, popcorn action RPG I'm fine with that. Definitely preferable (for this kind of game) to the overly po-faced fantasy writing of other developers.

Oh look, it's Red Alert all over again. So when was the last time you've actually played Diablo or Diablo 2?

You honestly think that the Demon Hunter video is on the same level as Red Alert 2? Added to which, cheese != camp. Of course the first two Diablo games were cheesy and over the top (remember the names of enemies? remember the enemy design?), but they weren't camp. Personally, I don't think the DH is all that much more cheesy than, say, the fetishes in the D2 jungle, or the Hell art design, for that matter.

Oh well if you say so

I can add one more thing to the list of "now I've heard everything".

Torchlight 2
Fuck it. Who am I kidding? I'll probably buy Diablo III first day it comes out.
But I'll like Torchlight 2 more.

Let me guess: 'Always, into the east.'
Diablo I, I'd argue, was neither overbearingly cheesy or campy. You might've had the butcher growling 'ah, fresh meat' and otherwise slightly over-wrought voice acting, but the overall atmosphere still came off as grim and dark (whoops) as anything else that dealt with delving into the unholy depths of the abyss.
More than anything else, the tone of the games was foreboding and grim, regardless of explosions or cartoony enemies.
This full on Evil Dead cheesy horror march advancing in the background while Polyboob Breastplate labours to be cool and inspiring in the meantime doesn't work because, apart from cheesiness, the voiceover director pushed for exactly the wrong tone of exaggerated badassedness (which would be 'trying too hard'), and the script has more horrific clichés than you can pack into a couple of seconds than I ever thought possible. I mean, 'I stand alone; and if they keep coming, I will NEVER STOP KILLING'.
I mean, how much cornier can it get before you have to call Bruce Campbell in to salvage what's left? 'You have a choice.' Bleh.

I liked the bit where she said
"I am the hunter...."
and then you could almost hear the writers being told "uh, apparently our mouthbreathing focus groups are confused by that line..could you clarify it?"
".....and they are the prey."
"..oh, THEY are! Oh right. Thanks. Much better."

It seems all the grimdark oozed out of them before I saw them, they look like usual Diablo 3 screenshots, warm, fuzzy and colorful.
