This just in, auction house kills item hunting, one of main features of Diablo 1/2. Why bother running bosses when you can just equip +% gold gear and farm money?
I take it you weren't around when people were farming SoJs to trade for uniques and other high-level items, hmm? At least gold has something of a purpose this time around ;)

Kinda like your fail Sims analogy.

True sims at least is fun in customizing stuff

Well The Sims is just a rehash of Ultima so...

Also I hate quoting people, but..

It is apparent to me that Blizzard doesn't want us getting past Act 2 of inferno without spending some cash at the RMAH. If you elect to not use the RMAH, you'll be grinding and selling items 10-100k at a time, saving up for that 10 million gold weapon that will still require you to kite in order to farm. I'm not saying it will be impossible to avoid the RMAH, but it will be practically unfeasible. People have complained about the lack of offline mode, and I believe the motive is two-fold. DRM always increases sales, that's why it is utilized even if customers hate it. The other part is that they want you to have access, and the incentive, to use the RMAH. The brick wall that starts in Act 3 of inferno, the randomness of the gear and the admitted controlled-rarity of good gear, all of it points towards the RMAH.

...kind of how I see it too.

I would quote Blizzard's latest patch notes saying that Inferno is being nerfed but instead I'll leave you to your irrational hatred.

Koki's right about the AH for everything pre-inferno, and by hell you're going to be looking at major gold shortages. For Inferno, AH gear is so expensive you'll only be able to afford it by selling on the AH yourself.
AFAIK, Inferno mode is currently far too hard on purpose - the explanation I heard was it was being used initially as a way to detect broken skills, which could then be fixed and the difficulty turned down significantly.
Beyond that though...yes, the endgame is grindy. But it's Diablo - the endgame is always grindy.

Fixed that for you, chief!

A recommendation to anyone having gold issues: trade.
The auction house only supports 10 concurrent listings and so I always have an inventory full of rares that I mean to sell but never get around to. Typically, they get handed out to my friends. If you don't know anyone who plays IRL, I've seen people handing out suboptimal but still decent gear on the in-game chat. But unless you are horribly ill-equipped to deal with an encounter, save your gold for later on... either to use on the AH or to level your crafting which, when exalted, can produce some amazing rares that will fetch a fortune on the AH.
