I loved this game but the clean up here is a bit bonkers. Adventure Game?? All the art awards? Sound? Really? I don't play that many games but unless the overall standard has come up greatly I think this deserved some recognition. I understand why it got GotY - the story and the characters. And yeah, Ellie's character performance was tremendous.
Still feels odd to me though, even I though I really, really liked it.

Yeah, I'm not buying into it either. I loved TLoU, and it definitely deserves plenty of accolades, likely even the GOTY. But Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction? It's a nice, accomplished rendition of the Logan's Run / STALKER variety of post-apoc visuals, but hardly an overwhelming one, especially when considering... you know, STALKER. I'd have easily given Art Direction to Bioshock Infinite.
Instead, Infinite gets Best Action Game. Seriously? The worst part of Infinite gets the gold? How about Tomb Raider? Or, I dunno for sure 'cause I'm not yet half-way through, but Metro: Last Light's been rocking in that department so far. Or, hell, I had a much better time with Saints Row IV's action gameplay.
And I take it visual engineering is graphics tech. It's impressive that they got TLoU looking so good on a console from donkey's years ago, but again... Metro.
I don't know, seems like they really fell in love with the dramatic elements of TLoU - understandable - and decided to hang most all their hats on it. In before they start rolling out the "Citizen Kane moment" and "better than Deus Ex" buzz.

I understand why it's getting so much attention, but Last of Us never really clicked for me. The resource scarcity felt so forced and artificial - you can only shank a guy with a pair of scissors once before they break, unless you read a manual, which lets you shank a whole of twice? The sneaking wasn't bad, but I wouldn't call it amazing either, and after about 12 hours I gave up, figuring I'd have been better off just watching a Let's play of the whole affair.

I'm sorry, but The Last Of Us deserves all of it and more. It's the one AAA game to come out last year that proved to me that AAA games can still be art and not have to be Dark Souls first.
