ok after all that back on topic, Dethtoll can you really explain the reasons you think TLOU deserves such a clean sweep? Genuinely interested here. How is it "art"?

Well it's pretty beautiful, all in all. The story is great and more so because the characters in it are great and they feel real. They don't do stuff because they are heroes but because they want to, and the people they encounter are just as realistic. That's also what makes it so grim and so scary. Some the grade A arseholes you meet are totally and completely believable. If something like that did happen you would have to behave in the mistrusting way that most people do because most people really are dicks.
The actual artwork is fabulous. The abandoned houses and towns are works of art on their own. Add to that the numerous incidental stories you encounter, which are also written so well as to be believable and you have a setting which looks and feels both lush and devastated. It's a heart string tugger, no doubt.
The gameplay is a little contrived but it works. And when you get into it it works really well. Its tense and unforgiving but not so hard that you get frustrated. There was one bit that I struggled with and got annoyed at.
And the ending is one of my favourite endings of all time. Not because its epic or spectacular or has an awesome twist though. Because it feels so real and because its so complex and so powerful even though its delivered with such understatement.
However - although it has all this, and I'll gladly go with some of those awards, I don't know that it deserves all the art and sound awards. And it's not an adventure game, though I don't know what their criteria for "adventure" is.
