Fixed. Blame the wife. ("Are you playing that Thief thing again?!")
I also removed the term, "both files." For some reason, there was the main package and then the contrib.zip file, which looked to be a dupe of what was in the main.

I'm not sure if you noticed, given how buried it is, but there's actually a (source) patch to your font tool in the NewDark distro (it's in fonttools_aa256_patch.zip inside contrib_editor_demos.zip). The patched thieffon.exe seems to work fine, but the patched wfon.exe hangs for me when it tries to actually generate the bitmap, so that code probably needs some scrutiny.

That's strange.
I suppose you could try the version that I built and see if that does anything different.
Could one of you please post the finalized versions of the updated / patched wfon.exe and corresponding thieffon.exe? If possible please provide usage information, especially for any new features / command line options for the executables. Thank you!

This is whatever I built at the time, mixed in with the original Font Tool from the DromEd Toolkit.
Usage instructions? No idea, I just patched the source and compiled.

Thanks. I just found this:

Thief Font Converter
Abstract: Tool to create fonts for the Dark Engine
Status: Finished

Last Update: 2013-04-18

The Thief Font Tool (but also System Shock) has been the go-to utility for working with fonts in the Dark Engine. It takes a bitmap image of the outlined font glyphs and creates a font. Also, you can convert a font back to in image for editing.
This latest update adds support for 8-bit grayscale fonts that have recently been added to the unofficial New Dark patch of the Dark Engine. The tool can read bitmaps in BMP, GIF, PNG, or PCX format at 8 and 24 bit depths.
It looks like telliamed silently updated his fonttool (
http://www.whoopdedo.org/projects.php?dark#ThiefFon) here. That's the other half. Use your tool to convert a truetype font to bitmap graphics, and then use telliamed's to make the font file that NewDark uses.
You may want to update your zip with t's latest & the toolkit with your updated zip.

Now that I think of it, Telliamed did (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141367) announce an update to the font tool, incorporating the changes in the diff and adding more things.
So, what I just attached is useless.
I don't maintain the DromEd Toolkit any more. AM16 has taken that over.

I don't think he did anything with wfon, so what you did there is important to getting AA fonts going.
