Most of us have heard of Ghosting and the Speed Run, but what are the other ways to enjoy Thief? With a game this versatile, it isn't too difficult to find new excuses to play it all over again. I'm sure some of these have been done before, but I like to have full lists that are easy to access.
Master of the Blade - This version is simple. Fight every creature in hand to hand combat and kill them. Zombies must at least be beaten to the ground. No other weapon is allowed to do damage. (Note: Fire Shadows only need to be killed once.) Don't worry about enemies you can't reach, are infinite, or invincible (All three of which take place in the Maw). Surprisingly enough, the front gate guards at Bafford's were the most challenging. Health potions are a must. Can only play as the difficulty allows.
Robin Hood - Take out as many enemies as possible only using arrows. I don't know if it's possible to take out every single enemy this way, but it's close. However, you have to make sure that most of your strikes are one-shot kills or you run out of arrows fast. Zombies can be taken out by Holy Water and Fire Arrows. Again, only kill Fire Shadows once. Gas arrows do not count except for flaming enemies. If you knock out an enemy, you must finish them off with a different arrow to kill them. Can only play as the difficulty allows.
Hopped up on Thieving - Get as many Airborne knockouts as possible. Don't know if this works with burricks and it certainly doesn't work with spiders or the undead (unless you're really awesome).
Trapmaster - This is by far the most fun and the most frustrating. You are not allowed to deal any damage, but must get as many kills as possible. This is achieved by luring enemies into harms way. Surprisingly, every level allows this option in some way, whether it be drowning, foe vs. foe, pressure traps, friendly fire, or suicide. Chucking hammers works too, since the damage doesn't count against you. Just use it as a last resort. In Guild alone there were 64 dead without me laying a finger on anyone (thanks to my best friend the Street Guard, who single-handedly took out 44 members of the Guild, and Fido the Giant Spider who did the rest). Record the kills yourself, since they won't show up in the stats.
So if anyone attempts any of these methods, please post the results of the level in this thread. I'm curious to see the stats. Also, if there are other interesting ways to enjoy Thief, please let me know. I need another excuse to play a round. I haven't tried any of these methods in TMA, so let me know how that goes as well.
