I have a bit of a dillema, I don't know if I should make the difficulty lower from expert, going after all the loot takes many minutes, sometimes even hours, I get frustrated by the guards, plus many other annoying things. Should this game be played at a lower difficulty for people like me, or should I continue on with the expert frustrations? Is the game not worth it if not playing on expert?
1st game.

The game really only comes into its own at Expert difficulty. But I suggest you play it through once at the easiest level, to familiarize yourself with the game, before moving on to Expert.

There is nothing easy about playing on normal difficulty if you are playing for the first time. If you find the restrictions on expert difficulty frustrating play on normal! It's a game. It's supposed to be fun!:D

Don't sweat it zemegauser; I've been playing Thief for years and have only played some of the FMs on Expert. I started out by playing TDP on the easiest setting a couple times, then graduated to the next difficulty level, after which some FMs were starting to be released, so I started by playing those on the easy setting as well. As far as I'm concerned, playing on the easier difficulty settings didn't diminish my enjoyment of Thief in the least and there shouldn't be any stigma attached to those who choose to do so. You can't enjoy something if it's too difficult to play, right?
I agree with Sly.

That said, some missions have extra objectives and more areas on harder difficulty levels and those usually make it worth it for me.

My first time was in the easy setting.
It´s really fun and doesn´t take away the challenge. It helps you familiarise with the game and know where the main loot is. After that the hard and expert settings are less frustating since you have more experience, a better knowledge of the maps and loot and can enjoy the replayability because they add new things.

Looking Glass named the difficulties normal, hard & expert for a reason. They thought there was nothing easy about normal!;)

Yeah, I think I will step down to the normal difficulty, it's just too hard on expert. And I will finally be able to use my bow against guards, YAY!

I think Expert is the only way to play Thief. You are, after all, a thief, and killing people is not good. So, in and out, and no one should know you were there.

A thief can do his missions however he wants, there is no rule book dictating how you must do your missions.
