There wasn't really a trap at angelwatch. Would you want to set up an alarm system on the safe in which you keep your top secret plans? Besides, it can be disabled, so I managed to sneak back out with no difficulty.
Karras' message startled me, and it felt rather intimidating. I imagine that was the purpose behind it, just to mess with Garrett's mind.

And besides, it was as harmless a threat as any of the threats he made later in Soulforge.:p

I've got this mental image of Garrett taking a deer leg and putting it in his mouth, chomping down on it and pulling out the bone like in the cartoons.
You'd think he'd get thirsty every once in awhile. He's only ever drank (drunk? drinked?) health potions (which can't taste too good since they're medicine) and a single bottle of wine from the Widow. He must be very dehydrated from all that dry bread.

Actually, in the Medieval times, soldiers were trained to fight in groups. Having one left handed soldier would make the entire group weaker.
Quote:
Even in the past teachers would force students to write with the right hand. Some even believed that left hand proficiency was an evil sign.
Quote:
That is true. Both my father & my husband are lefties. The modern word sinister meaning evil or unlucky is derived from the Latin word sinister meaning on the left side.
I'm always amazed that when somebody notices for the first time that your left handed they exclaim "Your Left handed!", as if it was a disease or something.
But to the first quote, now I think of it that seems to make sense, I seem to recall that I was informed by a guide when visiting a castle that all the spiral staircases go in clockwise direction so that any intruders running up the stairs are disadvantaged to the guards that are heading down, Being right-handed in that situation would make you advantaged.

The only thing missing is a Hitchcock-like sound of shock and horror.

I like to tell our left-handed archers that they're using their wrong hand... everytime I see them.

I always thought that the reason for the human pagans appearing after T1 was because non-humans couldn't be produced anymore without Constantine, so Victoria began recruiting from the human populace. The City wasn't exactly paved with gold after all, so the down-and-outs who were constantly being persecuted and imprisoned under the Hammerites might have wanted a change of scenery.
And you don't need spooky plant magic to make a man and a lady get friendly-like, if you know what I mean. I suspect Garrett was supposed to be attracted to Victoria in T1, they just didn't want to write him as the type who carries his heart on his sleeve, so you wouldn't be able to tell.
The biggest problem I had with the Thief games was why exactly Karras wanted Garrett dead in the first place. He's out to get Garrett before you even know who he is. I never got that, and I know that T2's plot was a retrofit, but it still should have made sense. Was he mad because Garrett didn't thank him for the eye? Did he have keeper roots that allowed him to view the prophecies which pinpointed Garrett as his foil? Was he jealous of Garrett's superior speaking voice, or that Garrett gets all the ladies and he just has his robots?
"Art thou not a thief? Then steal thyself away!"

That is an interesting theory. I'll think about that. There's no real evidence against that other than the strong impression made by the other two games that humans have been part of the pagan culture for a long time. We know humans used to worship the Trickster, and many out of fear of the dark, before technology drove the darkness away with artificial light.
Maybe the newer ones are hippies who've seen the faces of the gods, and have taken up a new way of life, disgusting Karras to no end.
The pagan humans would usually be the farmers and general agricultural types in the Thief Universe, but more oriented towards groves and orchards...and vines...with the occasional small garden. There is that unused Hammerite line that the "Fellahdeen are heretics".
Viki requires spooky plant magic in order to appear human. I wouldn't call her a lady, but she does a great job of mimicking one, that wood nymph. ;)
Just because Garrett doesn't know who Karras is, doesn't mean Karras (who gave Garrett his mechanical eye!) doesn't know Garrett. Karras, formerly of the Order of the Hammer, who would certainly know of the Order's battle with the Trickster's army at the temple, which involved Garrett, whom they worked with to stop the Trickster's ritual, and they certainly knew of Garrett's missing eye, would not be so ignorant. He demonstrates pretty good intelligence gathering skills in TMA. Who knows how long it took the Hammers to rig the fake Eye, or if Karras helped make it, and how much discussion took place between the Hammers and Garrett about anything? Two different Hammers dug up information for Garrett before he entered the Maw, including one in secret who asked for money. The player is usually more in the dark than the characters of the story would be. The problem in TMA is that the player figures things out long before Garrett does. :D

This reminds me of another thing I never quite accepted, namely how the Hammerites and Garrett decide so quickly of that there must be made a fake Eye (and what the Eye looks like exactly, especially since Garrett couldn't really take a closer look after its transformation) and that it must be replaced (and not simply stolen) to stop the Trickster. Well, we could assume there were ancient books at the Hammerites or Keepers (the first being the only ones believing in the "old gods" as Garrett says, the second knowing everything in any event), but that seems a little unsatisfying to me.
