Digging Deep; The little things in Thief you never quite accepted... - by TheGrimSmile

Are those from in-game? O.o Never seen them before. Them again, I haven't really played the game that fully...

I wouldn't put it past the Trickster to have the RatBeasts plague the Kurshok and eat their eggs (population control, heh). Don't forget, there were never any ratmen. They were monkeys and mistakenly called ApeBeasts. They are called monkeys in the media files. The fans mistook them for humanoid rats and made the Ratman name up. It wouldn't surprise me if that was where T3's RatBeasts came from--that fan myth. As far as we know, the RatBeasts haven't been seen or spoken about anywhere else.
So, the RatBeasts could have come from some lonley scientist in the sewers? XD Just kidding.
So, if those things were called ApeBeasts, then what are those things that hang out in Pagan areas?
About those things (while we're on the subject) were they friends with the Pagans or just from the same area? And where did they go in T3?

One wonders. Were there any signs of male and female, either?
Maybe they're just rather masculine asexual little people.
From that thread on Precursors (which I haven't read completely) , are the Kurchock heads those things that are always hanging on the walls as trophies? I mean, they're usually referred to as snakes or other beasts, but...

WHOA WHOA WHOA!:laff:
The masks are not from in-game but they are in the files. We also have no clue what the story behind them is, nor if they had anything to do with the Kurshok.
Rat Beasts are the humanoid rats in T3.
Ape Beasts are the official name given to both the ones with the tails and swords in T1/Gold (humanoid monkeys not rats) and the ones in T2 with blowpipes and without tails. The term "ratmen" is fan-made and it confuses people.:cheeky:
The CobraBeast trophy heads are from the CobraBeast AI that LGS could never get working.

Ahh, well... there is too much finniness there to be a mere coinceidence, so I'd have to say they're raleated. But I guess it's like geometry, where you can't say anything without all that proving crap.

Ah, I get ya now :thumb: Would've been nice to see some hanging from trees and stuff.
Still, rats seem a bit more threatening than... monkies? With swords? Sounds more like a street sideshow.
So are the T2 Ape Beats really apes this time, or some kind of anthro brown bear?
XD sorry.

In any case, I doubt they would've looked like that :laff: Not to mention, thanks to a certain FM, we all know that little snakes are pesky enough.
Uh-oh, I've got to get some sleep in, and at this rate I'll be asking questions all night.

Ah yes. Thanks! Now where's she hiding out?:p Maybe there's a chamber they keep her safe in. Maybe they place the eggs out where they are vulnerable because it's better than having a Rat Beast invasion. Heh.

I recognised the image from the promo site, but I don't think I saw much of Azal's T3 stuff. Thanks again!

They are indeed in-game, all of them. You can get them for extra loot if you buy a tip before Lost City Mission.
Sangar --
Let me know if you ever come across any good antiquities in your, ah, explorations. I'd be particularly interested in any ritual headresses and masks. The gold and enamel work from Cyric is increasingly rare, and I needn't point out that if you ever found something dating back to the Precursors, I'd make you a rich man.

You can also see them on the 3rd floor in T2 Casing.
And that Kurshok face looks like it is from this artwork:

I know the game has masks to pick up, and I know about that text, and Garrett's cutscene reference to them and Gervaisius in TMA. What I don't remember--and am about to fire up DromEd to correct that--is that
these masks were the ones he acquired. That would change several things, and require fanon to make sense of it.:D
I'll have to repair my notion that the Precursor masks were the masks Garrett acquired for Bram, instead of the new thinking that he acquired some Lost City masks, but not the brass ones Karras is after.
